Is The Lounge Like Jr. High?
I didn't believe that a few weeks ago...

but as I've thought about it, and thought about it some more, it seems like there are similar aspects to Jr. High... who's popular, who can say the funniest things, who can post and get the most comments in a picture thread, etc

I love the lounge, convince me that it isn't like Jr. High, or that maybe there is nothing wrong with Jr. High if it is.

(BTW I HATED JR. HIGH)

4. You know that nobody likes you and we all talk about you in the bathroom.
Edited on Thu Nov-01-07 07:29 PM by XemaSab
Last week there was a party at Tyler's house and you weren't invited. But anyway, we made a list of all the people nobody likes and your name was on it.

Remember last year when you stuck up your hand in math class and asked that question? That was like, so wierd. And you remember that time you wore that T-shirt with GI Joe on it and you said your grandma got it for you? Yeah, I know it was third grade, but it still makes you a freak. Finally there was the time when all the girls were chasing the boys and you totally let Jenny touch you. I mean, you were running away at the time, but like, ew. I heard Jenny's sister had mono, and that's practically like AIDS.

Stop being such a freak.

Sincerely,

The Entire Seventh Grade.

(and yeah, I hated jr high too :( )

12. lets see how to describe a slam book...I will take an exerpt from wikipedia
Slam Books are traditionally spiral-bound notebooks passed among Junior high school students who add comments, often anonymously. Around since at least the 1940s, slam books typically list one person, topic or question per page, and several readers write their comments, which are often harsh and slam the person listed. Questions focus on the group's social structure, teachers and fads, such as, who is most popular or worst dressed, or whether they like/dislike a specific teacher, administrator or celebrity.

Slam books are so-called because they:

"slam" students and teachers
are slammed shut when teachers are nearby
Most popular among teens and young adolescents, slam books are notorious (and thus intriguing) for insulting and humiliating their subjects, which is why schools have banned them.

Other slam books, however, aren't mean-spirited or designed to humiliate, and include gentler, tamer questions, such as, "What pet would you like to have?" or, "What's your favorite movie?"

Though traditional slam books are passed in the hallway among students in their peer group or clique, online slam books are becoming global. You sign up and send around a virtual notebook, whether within their continent or internationally, and once completed, it returns to the original author, full of comments.

16. It's definitely a part of the scene
all that PMing and stuff ; there's a couple of cliques here , but if that isn't important to you, you can still be yourself. I come here to relax, Especially during the poison flame wars during primary season. Interesting and eclectic.

I'd say the lounge reminds me more of a party at a famous Band's house where all the groupies hang out together in one room and have a great time all by themselves, and there's some really happening stuff in another room or fascinating people out by the pool, and sometimes the groupies come over and join the fun. But they always wonder who invited who.

31. It seems that way at first, but the longer you stay, the less it seems that way.
Now it just seems like a gaggle of goofy people letting off steam. Some people do try to outdo each other funny wise here, but it really seems to be for a different reason than in Jr High; rather than to gain social status it's simply to try and make others laugh.

No one's popular here: we're all losers. ;)

Honestly, it's just a big gang. Obviously the longer you post here, the more people warm up to you, but that's not Jr High, that's the entire human species, and we're that way for very good reasons!

36. I Understand everything you say
and agree to a point, however there are definitely the "popular" ones here as well as not. It does have to do with how long you've been here.

It also has to do with personality that comes across, cleverness, and I would think also there is a definite contingent of people who have their fans here because of their physical attractiveness. There are certain posters who will post a picture and people will say things like "thud" or whatever just like in real life. Physical attractiveness plays a part here with the picture threads being the vehicle for that aspect of the lounge experience.

I've been here long enough to know these things, it just is that I've felt defensive of the idea that it is Jr. High'ish, and right now I see that maybe it is more than I'd like to admit. Of course my original post was to ask people to convince me that it wasn't jr high or that maybe there is nothing wrong with that.

I've concluded that it is in fact jr. high'ish, there are some things wrong with that, and there are lots of things that are in fact just that way IRL and here.

The humor, the fun, the laughing, the silliness are all the good aspects. The validation, the love, the caring are all good things.

The negatives are far outweighed by the positives here most of the time.

but the homeroom teacher caught them and gave them detention, so they sent around secret notes telling everybody to ignore me. Then my friend got one of the notes and showed me. But I still have to sit by myself! Kids are sooooo cruel, my Mom says.
