1. You can tell how long they've been there by how much dust they have on them.

who keeps cats in a van?

It's a commerical van, some rooter service. Still. It's november.

12. They've been there long enough to reproduce?
That's why I like dogs--they'd be tough enough to handle the cold.

:hide:

Hope they are OK.

17. There was originally just one....
but then went up to the windshield, and the kitties came a jumpin' on the dashboard. 4 of them in total.

3. Can they get out?
I hope it isn't warm there today, it can get quite hot in a vehicle. If you can't find the owner of the van just go over and pop out a couple of windows to give them some ventilation.

5. seriously, would they be okay?
it's not warm, but how long does their owner want to keep them in there?

It's rather chilly this morning but that doesn't mean it can't heat up later.
Leave the kitties at home with food, water, and whatnot, I say.

7. I think they should be ok if it isn't too warm.
Maybe they were found by the guy/gal & they are taking them home after the service call?

6. Let us know what happens, okay?

Otherwise this will be on my mind, poor kitties!

Maybe leave a note for the owners in the meantime telling them of your concerns, and/or call the local Humane Society.

Good luck!

8. I may call a little later..........
I'll keep an eye on the situation.......maybe it's some guy doing some work who likes his cats close by, maybe it's some braindead jerk who parked there overnight.

I'll stick my nose in if necessary. I always do. :(

16. The van has moved a few times......
up the street a bit, then back across my apartment but parked on the other side of the street.
When I was taking my garbage out before, I noticed two people who came out of the apartment there come up to the van, to what? check on the kitties.......

maybe in the stealth of darkness I will put a warning note on their windshield?

like, I'll call the Humane Society or Animal Services on you as the kitties have been in their all day?

It's dark out, and the weather is getting chilly. I don't care if they have been left food and water (I don't know, can't see), I'll bust your asses.
:(

Thank you for all you do!

10. they are spying on you!
Cats are the secret masters! When their tails vibrate, they are uploading all of their data to their HQ. It's too late - they've probably been watching you for weeks.

Crap. I've said too much - now my cat is looking at me funny... I better sign o

13. If there's an open window or an opening in the bottom of the van....
...the kitties may have climbed in on their own. I say this from experience--the cat I grew up with was like a reverse Houdini, and could find his way into just about any vehicle; he used to LOVE climbing into my mom's little convertible and sleeping in the back window.

14. We used to have a cat who did that.
One day, my son came home and found the reading light on in the van, and the cat curled up sleeping in the passenger seat. Another time, I got a couple of miles away from home before she started meowing to be let out. She was hiding under the seat. I had to turn around and go back home with her.

The worst was when she put her kittens in the cab of my husband's truck. He went to work with the kittens, and she meowed all day. We still don't know how she got them in there.

15. they love to crawl up into the fender wells on pickup trucks. my
sister had a black cat who did this regularly. Usually he was discovered at the farm shop about 1/2 mile away but one day my brother in law went to the crop service, down to Clarksville to get a haircut then over to our cousin's to order some stuff and the cat got out at Mark's house. This was about 40 miles all told. The funny part was Joe actually put the cat in the cab with him which was a major concession for him. Not a cat lover, our Joe.
