Anyone else have African Dwarf Frogs?
We inherited some from a friend. They are tiny little things -- less than two inches long with their legs extended, probably. Their bodies are about the size of the top part of my pointer finger from the top joint to the end of my fingertip. They live fully submerged, coming up for air only on occasion. They like warmer water, so we have a heater in the 10-gallon tank. I have really come to enjoy their antics -- they are wacky little guys and do funny things like float on their backs (scaring me every time).

Here are some photos from The Google on The Internets:

2. They are pretty cute.
I didn't know anything about them until we got 'em, but they are about as much trouble as goldfish, except you just need to heat the water. You can keep one or two in a gallon of water (of course more H2O is better if you don't want to change the water as often).

3. Always have a good tank top on.
Even the ones where you cut out the little square holes for airline tubing, they will jump up and dry out... like those dried onions you can buy in a tin to munch on.

4. Good tip.
I have a lid on, but there is some extra open space around the filter, so I worry about that. Maybe I'll stretch some netting or nylon over the area ...

5. Make sure they don't have to work too hard to get to air -
They are more like Bettas, "puddle inhabitants" that thrive if they can hang out at a depth of 5 - 7 inches of water, though they will go lower in a deeper tank. We had two in our 20 gallon fish tank, but we didn't have anything that sat "halfway" up to the waterline for the tank, and they only lived about 2 months.
Talking later to someone at the fish store who had them, his would live around 3 - 5 years in his tank; he had rock ledges and driftwood in his tank to give them the proper levels to live at (as well as for the other fish to hide out in and for the decoration).

Good luck with them. They also appear to like to be in pairs.

6. Thanks.
They have a couple plants they can perch on not far from the surface of our 10-gallon tank, but maybe I'll put a big rock in to give them more options.
