Starting a DU journal

I'm a little confused. Why does it ask me to post in a specific messageboard category?

When I write an entry in a journal, is that being posted to a messageboard, or just to my journal?

Sorry, I just don't understand why it is asking me to select a board. The journal is just for me and anyone who might want to read it, isn't it? Not to make posts on DU.
