Wow! The queen's crown gets its own horse-drawn carriage!
I Tivoed the opening of Parliament last night, and I'm watching it now.

The crown the queen wears arrives before her, in a big horse-drawn carriage. Then it's displayed for a bit before she puts it on.

They sure know pageantry there!

1. OMG!!!
An apostrophe AND "its" in the same sentence, and both correctly used!

It's a DU first!

;-)

DUer don't take kindly to that. Not a good way to win friends here. If you want to be a grammar nazi, go somewhere else.

Didn't know I had to join a DU clique before I said anything.

And somehow making fun of freeper spelling is funny every day here. Hypocrite.

Nice talking to you too.

Not. Making fun of freepers is one thing, but you were making fun of DUers. Not nice.

30. As a whole, DU loves to dish out the spelling/grammar follies of FR
Hugh, series, and things like that.

It sure can't take them, though.

31. Yes, but it's not the same thing.
if we went over to FR and started ragging on their spelling, etc., that would be like someone coming here and doing it to us. Taking a dump in our living room, so to speak.

3. Cool!
Once the queen is seated she commands the House of Commons to attend. A sergeant-at-arms called "Black Rod" walks across to the House of Commons, where the doors are slammed in his face.

He has to knock and announce himself, then he enters and gives the Queen's command.

It's a tradition to show the House of Commons is independent of the monarch.
