“I Am America (And So Can You!)” Audiobook Update -- November 2007
Edited on Sat Nov-10-07 06:07 PM by Audio_Al

Title: “I Am America (And So Can You!)”

Author: Stephen Colbert

Narrator: Stephen Colbert

Publisher Synopsis: From Stephen Colbert, the host of television's highest-rated punditry show, The Colbert Report, comes the audiobook to fill the other 23½ hours of your day (play on repeat to achieve a full-day cycle). "I Am America (And So Can You!)" contains all of the opinions that Stephen doesn't have time to shoehorn into his nightly broadcast.

Shouted directly into a micro-cassette recorder over a three-day weekend, this audiobook contains Stephen's most deeply held knee-jerk beliefs on The American Family, Race, Religion, Sex, Sports, and many more topics, conveniently arranged in chapter form.

Always controversial and outspoken, Stephen addresses why Hollywood is destroying America by inches, why evolution is a fraud, and why the elderly should be harnessed to millstones. You may not agree with everything Stephen says, but at the very least, you'll understand that your differing opinion is wrong. "I Am America (And So Can You!)" showcases Stephen Colbert at his most eloquent and impassioned. He is an unrelenting fighter for the soul of America, and in this book he fights the good fight for the traditional values that have served this country so well for so long.

Other Background:

The author reads this audiobook and presents special "Stephen Speaks for Me" guest voice cameos, as follows:
· Stephen Colbert as Himself and as Gil Honeycomb, the oldest man in the world
· Amy Sedaris as Dolores Greerson, old maid
· Raymond Whitman as Young Stephen
· Paul Dinello as Austin, A Formerly Gay Man
· Allison Silverman as Your Soul Mate
· Jon Stewart as Mort Sinclaire, former TV comedy writer and Communist
· Evelyn McGee as Cow #L73NR, a cow
· Greg Hollimon as Rev George A Lewis/Ex-Civil Rights Leader
· David Pasquesi as God / Maker of All that is Seen and Unseen
· Brian Stack as Thomas Bindlestaff/Exec Asst to Mr Colbert and Dr. Bernard Brunner/Distinguished Professor
· Kevin Dorff as The Guy Sitting Next to You at The Stadium

Audio Al's opinion: This is nuts... but so is the Colbert Report. If I am bonkers enough to watch his craziness on TV, how can I not listen to “I Am America (And So Can You!)"? How about YOU? It’s your call.

The complete audiobook review will be available on Oregon Public Broadcasting's Accessible Information Network in November 2007.

working mostly with the organizations for the blind here in Oregon and southern Washington.

Blind people are able to follow a great deal on television using "descriptive video service" -- if you are not familiar with this term, please see Wikipedia at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Descriptive_Video_Service

They also use computers with a program called "Jaws" installed (voice activated keyboards). But there's not much we can do about margin notes or footnotes! Our full-book readers are pretty competent and professional and they do their best. I'll pass on your comment to them.

We're grateful for your input, as we reach out to the sighted people on the OPB website and by including these expanded descriptions here the DU. It is always a large, mixed audience and we are sincerely trying to helping each other.

Respectfully,

Audio Al
