11. AND THE ANSWER:
There are actually two possible answers, depending on what your definition of a country is. (Pretty Clintonian, huh?)

Gibraltar is a oversea territory of Great Britain, but it's a stretch to say that the United Kingdom borders Spain. Still, it's a awfully narrow area to squeeze through and suddenly find the street signs in English instead of Spanish--3/4 OF A MILE. Have a look!

But the shortest distance between two sovereign nations lies in Africa, partly in a river between Botswana and Zambia. This region is sometimes called "the four corners of africa, although it isn't really anything like what we have in this country's SW. Have a look! The land you see in the bottom left belongs to Botswana, and the land in the top right belongs to Zambia; the other countries, Namibia and Zimbabwe, have panhandles preventing the two regions from neighboring at any other point. Only about 1 AND 1/4 OF A MILE separates the two countries, and a small ferry helps complete the journey, with a checkpoint on the other side.

13. Botswana was featured in last weeks Top Gear episode

Unfortunetely they started from the Botswana/Zimbabwe border and drove to the Botswana/Namibia border, not touching the short border between Zambia.

So the only road to Gibraltar is going over an airport, interesting.
