To davsand, I had a similar situation.

Only I was an adult, and this was at a restaurant.

The owner, (a very short fellow who like acting big,) I never had any trouble with, and I was one of his better workers.

Anyway, he gave invitations to a Christmas party to everyone, except me.
In fact I didn't even know about the upcoming party.

So the day after this party, my fellow workers are talking about the fun they had at the party.
I'm baffled, I said, "What party?"

When they heard I didn't get an invitation, a couple people suggested it must have been a mistake.

During a break I talked to the owner, asking him nicely if it was.
He sneers at me, "I didn't invite you, because you're a fucking Kraut."

I'm stunned, I ask, "What?"

He says, "You fucking Krauts invaded my country, I'm Polish."

I exploded. :grr:

I said VERY angrily, "MY ancestors emigrated here from Germany before WW1, you fucking midget!"
"As to this job, you can cram it up your ass!"
I took off my apron and threw it across his desk, knocking just everything off it.

I leaned in REAL close to his face, (he already looked scared,) and told him that if he tried fighting me getting unemployment compensation, I would sue his ass for discrimination.

And stormed out of the restaurant.

He didn't fight it, I got unemployment compensation until I got a job at a local cheese factory.

Years later, I read that the guy was sent to FEDERAL prison for tax evasion and fraud.
I laughed my ass off.

So it isn't just little kids who pull shit like what your daughter experienced, adults can do it too, for the most petty of reasons.

I haven't heard about or seen the guy in over 20 years.

We just now got home from a "retail therapy" session that included both breakfast AND lunch out. While I'm sure it was in no way as much fun as that slumber party, it was the best I could do.

I have to say that I have been so very touched by what the DUers have chosen to share with me as a result of my post yesterday. It is abundantly clear that DU really is very much of a "community" in the true sense of the word, and our community is a bunch of mostly kind souls. It has also been pretty evident that there is a whole lot of unkindness in our world--and the hurt from it hangs on us all for such a very long time.

Something I have come to realize about myself as a result of all this, has been that I really did develop a no-bullshit attitude early on in my life. My attitudes formed when I saw (as a little kid born with a birth defect) how ugly and mean people can be just for fun or just because they can.

In no way did I have a choice about being born different--just as you had no choice about what ethnic background you were born into--yet we both were targeted as a result. It is a pretty sad commentary on the world, but I hold the conviction that there are some people on this planet that are so fucking stupid and evil that they do not have any right to share space with me on any regular basis.

Your story sounds like you encountered one of THOSE people.

good for you that you dealt with that asshole the way you did. Frankly, I think that some folks just don't understand too much short of outright anger or a 2x4 upside the head. I'm glad you showed him your anger, and I am glad you walked out. I would have done the same, but it might have been touch and go if I'd have kicked his ass WHILE I was walking out...

The one who DISinvited your daughter?

If so, what did they say?

Hubby and daughter both do not want me to do anything. They want to just let it die. (They tend to be more civilized than I.) I understand my daughter's fear that she will suffer retribution if I do anything, and I also understand my husband's fear of criminal charges or civil litigation if I go over there while I am still angry...

I have agreed to let my daughter ask the girl directly why she was treated this way, and I have also encouraged my daughter to try and cultivate other social outlets that are maybe more considerate of her feelings. I'm ok with letting her take her own steps (to a point) because this is about HER feelings--not mine. It really has to be her choice, I think.

I will confess here that I am personally WAITING for the time I see those parents. It will happen sooner or later because this is a small school district. WHEN I see those parents we will chat, and I will express my disappointment and displeasure to them. Hopefully, by that point in time, I will have calmed down a bit.

I'd say he's a disgrace to the old country. And the fact he was convicted of tax evasion just shows that sometimes what goes around comes around.

I was told by the mall manager not to hire any Arabs..(I was a 19-year-old high school drop out, I wouldn't know what an Arab was it one came up and bit me)I simply asked her, "why"...and she simply replied because this is a Jewish owned mall!.....I quit weeks after that, it really left me with a terrible taste in my mouth.
