Do you have anyone in your life who can't seem to get their life together?
I loaned money to such a person--a friend not a parishioner, and was given a check to pay it back. Now, I've been asked, for the third time "to just hold onto it, don't deposit it, for a few more days." I know I'm never going to be able to deposit the check and get my money back. And I really do think this person is well-intentioned. Just seems to have no idea how to run a life. And I don't see it changing any time soon.

1. Yes, and when I give them money, it's a gift, not a loan. (nt)

4. That's how I usually feel, too.
But since I ws ripped off by the debit card theives, I could kinda stand to have this money repaid. But it won't be. So, live and learn.

5. Ouch.
Hope you get the green light and can deposit that soon, then.

What really bugs me about the ones in my life is they only contact me for money. That actually hurts.

3. Yes, a few
I got smart and quit lending money to one awhile ago because I either would get half back or none. The others...I give advice if asked and I listen but I can't get sucked in to doing things for them anymore. No matter how good their intentions are, they never change.

7. Sounds like they have cash flow issues. Why not
just set up a realistic payment plan they can handle?

Then at least you'll be getting some money back and they won't feel guilty.

8. I suggested that.
The response was "No, no. Just a few more days, and I can pay the whole thing back." No realistic sense of his own situation, istm.
