For the last time... Deckard is NOT a replicant.
Edited on Tue Nov-20-07 04:45 PM by redqueen
There are so many flaws with that theory... but this alone should be enough:

If they were going to make a replicant that chases down and captures errant replicants... wouldn't they make it a bit stronger than other models? At least stronger than a basic pleasure model? Of course they would.

Case closed.

19. Gaff makes his origamis as analogies.
He made a chicken to say that Deckard was acting like a chicken, not that Deckard dreamed about a chicken.

The unicorn most likely meant that Deckard was chasing an impossible goal, not that Gaff knew Deckard had dreamed about a unicorn.

And besides, dreams? Really? People know what replicants dream about? Funny how Deckard chose to relate detailed childhood memories to Rachael, but for some reason people eat up the unicorn reference as meaningful, when obviously Gaff (if Deckard was a replicant, which he's not) would have had access to much more convincing information than that.

29. Yes, but Gaff had a soft spot for runaway replicants, that's why he didn't launch
a squadron of Vipers when Deckard and Sean Young took off. He knew they were going to die, so he fired up the FTLs and jumped out to go after Baltar instead

:P

54. Yes he was
The test could be fooled, and a human could show up as a replicant, but not the other way around. And, Deckard passed the biggest test of all - he was able to take part in Mercerism, which the replicants can't.

8. If Deckard was supposed to be a replicant,
and he wasn't supposed to know about it, the only way to pull it off (without letting him find out or making him suspicious) would be to give him average human skills and abilities, and NOT make him a terminator of sorts. Unfortunately this would indeed mean he has to deal with physically stronger opponents.

17. Nice bit of rationalization there.
Tell me this, then... why would they make him so resistant to doing his damn job?

He has to be *threatened* to come back. Remember?

So what, they made him rebellious... for kicks?

Pff... SO not a replicant.

39. In his memory he was threatened. In fact, he didn't come back, he was activated.
He was resistant because he suspected his true identity and admitted as much when he said "I knew it on the roof that night. We were brothers, Roy Batty and I" Rebellion was a personality trait that made him appear more human.

49. Ridley Scott says he is
This question use to obsess me. It seemed to me that Deckard could not possibly be a Replicant, otherwise the purpose/point of the film would be lost or irrelevant.

But what do we do when the director--and cues within the film itself--tell us that he is?

52. This is what I've argued for years:
Ridley Scott doesn't understand the screenplay he directed.

He admits he permitted everyone on the set to just come up with cool stuff on the spot, including dialogue and things that were not in the screenplay.

So, I wish Ridley Scott would Shut The Fuck Up. (Smilie here)

57. PKD would rotate at 70,000 RPMs in his grave
if he knew Ridley Scott intended the Deckard character to be a replicant.

Anyone who's familiar with the PKD's work in general, and "Do Androids..." in particular, knows that's just so... wrong.
