You know who had a lousy Thanksgiving?
Blackbeard, that's who.

He was murdered November 22, 1718.

Imagine if you will:

You're enjoying a nice pleasant retirement cruise in placid waters just off the shore of scenic Ocracoke Island.

It's dawn and you're nursing a rum hangover. Suddenly, on the horizon, warships from Virginia appear.

:wtf:

They knew you had given up piracy. They never would have dared messing with you if you hadn't disbanded most of your crew.

Alas, the Virginia governor's polling numbers were slipping and he needed some cheap publicity. What's better than taking out a threat that only exists in the minds of compliant members of the press?

So your ship was boarded by soldiers. Despite being outnumbered and hungover you fight them off and are on the verge of annihilating them when some coward shoots you in the back.

The next thing you know your severed head is a decoration on the bow of a ship.

Man that would suck.

Remember folks: No matter what happens to you this weekend someone had a worse holiday.

:toast:

6. Well how many good days do turkeys have?
Although I'd rather not have this thread degenerate into a discussion about food choices and animal rights.

10. You know what would be even worse, though?
Getting killed on John Lennon's birthday.
That would just suck beyond anything else imaginable.

11. No, he had a lousy November 22.
There was no Thanksgiving then. And Thanksgiving is not always November 22 either.

But, Blackbeard did have a REALLY crappy November 22 back in 1718.

15. How dare you?
I had a perfect rant.

I spent hours composing and perfecting it.

Then you go and interject facts into it.

Shame on you.

I learned something. So, you've taught me something and reduced the overall ignorance in the world.

17. Take a trip to Ocracoke you'll learn even more
And you'll have a fabulous vacation.

Here's a pic taken in the waters where the dirty deed took place. There are no historical markers so we were just guessing about the spot.
