Edited on Thu Nov-22-07 09:58 AM by undisclosedlocation
Edit: Rutherford B. bites the dust in favor of Isaac. (Apologies to Lemonade Lucy.)

Editedit: Willie Mays Hayes replaced by Purple haze (all in DUers' brains)

6. It's up now, just as the editing window closed
Not like a fictitious character in an 18 year old movie was all that likely to get any votes.

I practically never vote in my own polls.

15. He was up until the very last minute
I kind of had a sense that Purple haze might do better since at the time that was what 3 of the 4 responses were about. As it turns out, I could have taken off Von, but Willie Mays doesn't rhyme with Sean.:)

11. For those who don't know: Von Hayes was a former major league baseball player
Played for the Cleveland Indians, then was traded to the Phillies in the infamous "5-for-1" trade.

His classic quote, in response to Phillies fans' constant booing of him: "They can say what they want; I'll still be eating steak every night."

13. I remember Gabby Hayes
Edited on Thu Nov-22-07 02:32 PM by caty
from the TV and movies when I was very small, so I voted for him. He was scruffy, but lovable.

17. There is also Ira Hayes a full blood Pima Indian.

Ira Hayes was a noted World War ll hero. He was lovingly dubbed "Chief Falling Cloud."

By the beginning of 1945, he was part of the American invasion force that attacked the Japanese stronghold of Iwo Jima. On Feb. 23, 1945 to signal the end of Japanese control, Hayes and five other's raised the U. S. flag atop Mount Suribuchi on the island of Iwo Jima. This heroic act was photographed by Joe Rosenthal, and it transformed Ira Hayes' life for ever. Subsequently a commemorative postage stamp was created as well as bronze statue in Washington DC.
