This will be my first Xmas ever without my family with me.
Well, just my husband and three cats. It hardly seems worth the effort.

2. The kittties will be showered with gifts, of course.
My husband and I don't usually exhange presents, though!

3. Can you invite some folks over?
Maybe have a small open house? Ask over a co-worker or two for drinks and appetizers? Have a potluck?

To my mind, holidays are more fun when shared.

Remember, YOU are worth the effort.
Have a wonderful holiday!

4. My mother always rounded up "strays" for the holiday meals.
She always found someone who had no plans. Some of the strays became like family and came back for years.

5. This year
It's just me. Lelapin is going to her father's for the holiday. I know what you mean about the effort, but I'll at least decorate the house and probably spend Christmas Day cooking for a party I'm having on the 29th. It'll keep my mind off being alone.

Christmas Day is a good time for day trips or movies you've wanted to see...

6. I know what you mean, zanne.
My first Christmas of living abroad was pretty tear-filled, but by the second year, I had learned to throw myself into what I love about the holidays: doing stuff for the neighbors ("neighboring" is sort of unheard of here), picking up unusual little gifts for our Swiss goddaughters, and trying to figure out what I could do for others in a state where I spoke only a smidgeon of Italian. I got through it by taking the focus off of my homesickness, and I hope you do, too. It's hard, I know.
