Poll question: How will KitchenWitch react to the Torii Hunter deal?
He's gone from the ball club that has her heart to the one that's in her back yard.

1. I'm going to guess she'll be pleased after all
they could have made a worse trade.

2. Wasn't a trade
Hunter was a free agent.

I'd be quite torn if one of my favorite players went from the Dodgers to the Giants, even though it'd mean I could drive just over an hour to watch him, as opposed to five hours or more to LA.

It all depends on whether you're about the ball club or the players. I've always been about the ball club.

3. I guess you can tell I don't follow baseball...

So do you think she'll hate it, is she a club fan or a player fan?

5. I am a fan of both the club and the player.
Truth be told, I will still root for the Twins against the Angels any day. But it will make it more fun to go to Angels games with Torii in center.

7. Club fan
But every fan has their favorites. Makes it hard in the free-agent era.

6. Ah
I'd just gotten home about the time you posted that, and I missed it.

Believe me, Kitchy — I know how ya feel. Before he retired two springs ago, I hoped like hell the A's would pick up Jeff Nelson. I can't stand the A's, but they're only about 75 miles up the road.

8. It is hard.
I have a short entry in my blog about it. I really hate Carl Pohlad right now, but I know I don't want the Twins to blow nearly the entire payroll on one player, even if it IS Torii Hunter.

9. I have to forget all that once the season starts
Otherwise, I couldn't continue to be a fan.

But, christ almighty, I HATE it when a ballplayer — or his agent, more accurately — holds a ball club financial hostage, especially when it puts the screws to fans who've loved him.

That's why I still kinda wish Mike Piazza would fall off a bridge or something. :grr:
