We signed up for Netflix...
We don't watch movies much lately, so I got the Netflix 2 at a time $14.99/mo deal.

Tomorrow, we should be getting The Fog of War and La Vie en Rose.

After that, High and Low, and Au Revoir Les Enfants.

Next, Gigi and Dawn of the Dead (2004),

and then Princess Mononoke and Delicatessen. After that, we'll see what happens.

:hi:

12. Have you watched "Jean de Florette" and "Manon of the Spring?"
We loved those 2 as well.

(hope I didn't screw the names up on those!)

I may have the names mixed up.

It's: My Father's Glory and My Mother's Castle. (watch in that order)

French films based on the Pagnol novels. So sweet. About early 1900's growing up in France.

22. Jean de Florette is about a city family that moves into a French village
and is resented by their immediate neighbors, who try to sabotage their attempts at going "back to the land."

Manon of the Spring is about the daughter of the city family taking her subtle revenge.

7. I signed up for Netflix about a month or so ago.
I really like it. Haven't ordered any movies yet; been watching a couple of TV series.

I like it though; very quick turn-around time when between sending DVD's back and getting the next ones in my queue.

9. Excellent!
We'll be relatively low volume users, so I doubt we'll get too irritated with turn-around times, like some people do. I'm just excited to get back to movie watching!! :woohoo:

13. With movies, I wouldn't be very concerned, but if I'm watching
the first half of a season of a TV series, I want the second half asap.

14. I wasn't sure we'd like Netflix
since we get so many channels on TV already, but rarely watch TV anyway.

But we love it--we love setting a little time aside each week to stop everything and pop popcorn and watch a movie that we've chosen together.

16. It'll fit the bill then.
Plus Netflix is great at having off-beat indy films, foreign films, documentaries, and off-the-beaten path stuff, which is what I like anyway.

And of course loads of classic movies (and all the standard fare too).

Dawn of the Dead (2004)

Gigi (America, but very French)

Delicatessen (France)

Princess Mononoke (Japan)

The Bourne Ultimatum (US)

The City of Lost Children (France)

The Triplets of Belleville (France)

20. Their turn-around times have been FANTASTIC here.
Edited on Sat Nov-24-07 12:09 PM by PeaceNikki
I send movies and have next in queue in 48 hours. Always. I'm quite pleased and hope that you are as well.

I do recommend a film that was co-written/produced by a DUer - GumboYaYa:

Can Mr. Smith Get to Washington Anymore?
Frank Popper's engaging documentary follows the 2004 campaign of Jeff Smith, a young political science instructor at Washington University who runs for the seat vacated by retiring congressman Dick Gephardt. Pitted against state Rep. Russ Carnahan, the scion of a powerful political family, Smith proves that an unknown with no money can make a difference, forging a campaign that ultimately poses a serious challenge to Carnahan.

Here's his thread about it: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=389&topic_id=1431042

18. We just watched La Vie en Rose last night
I'm not a Piaf fan (my husband is) but that was one of the best movies I've seen in a long time.

Obscure foreign film...Antonia's Line. Dutch. A woman's film (not a chickflick, a woman's film). Hard as hell to describe but it's one of the very few I'd love to own.

19. You'll love Netflix
FAST delivery, excellent customer service, a HUGE collection of films (Netflix has quite an impressive catalog of gay and lesbian films, something Blockbuster DOESN'T have). I'm one of Netflix's most satisfied customers.

Enjoy! :-)

Once I finish watching the backlog of films I bought from a video store that was going out of business, plus my complete collection of Rick Steves videos (bought on special), I'm going to join Netflix and catch up on my viewing, especially of TV series.
