The Associated Press

ASHBURN, Va. -- Washington Redskins safety Sean Taylor was the victim of a shooting at his Florida home, according to a statement released Monday by the team.

The brief statement from the Redskins said Taylor was undergoing treatment at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Florida and that the Miami-Dade Police Department was investigating.

Taylor, 24, is in his fourth season with the Redskins. He leads the team with five interceptions but has missed the last two games with a knee injury.

3. Well we know it wasn't Portis
HE would have dropped the gun

Sheesh the best player on their team has knee problems THEN he gets shot.

Hope for the best for him.

6. According to Joe Gibbs...there was at least one previous break-in
to Taylor's house in the last week. The local newschannels are saying it may have been as many as three attempts..Latest reports say that even if he survives, brain damage is a big possibility...

8. I heard this on Riggins radio show-Taylor's mom called it in
this via a Miami Dade police detective who had NOT been on the scene-just from what he knew.

Riggins asked the det if he could confirm reports that Taylor had a machete in his hand when he either answered the door (last night) or once he realized someone was trying to break in (this is speculation on my part) the det. said he did not know couldn't confirm anything.

7. This is just sad
Edited on Mon Nov-26-07 06:50 PM by nytemare
The guy had some trouble a couple of years back, but was really getting himself together after having a child. He seemed to really be getting on the right track.

Latest is that he is in a coma, they are concerned about brain damage due to the loss of blood, hence shortage of oxygen to the brain, but it's too soon to tell.

There was a break in on the 18th, where a kitchen knife was left on the a bed. There was a safe in the bedroom near where the shooting occurred. I hope he can pull through this.

Hopefully, superb physical conditioning might help, but he has been unconscious and unresponsive since the shooting.

My heart goes out to his family, and his teammates.

15. I was amazed that he actually got to the hospital once I read of the artery getting hit
A real tragedy. I read about how he just suddenly realized what was important when he had a child-I can relate to that.

Very sad.
