Do you mind getting gift cards as Christmas gifts?

Last year, I got several...from Barnes and Noble, Amazon.com, Starbucks. I appreciated getting them, actually.

1. Nope, that's what I ask for, actually...
I prefer to buy my own stuff...I ask for B&N, Victoria's Secret, Old Navy, the local Yarn shop, etc. :)

I love shopping, so it's like an extra gift - the money to buy stuff, AND the shopping experience.

6. getting but not giving
nothing wrong with them, it just feels impersonal to me like you put no though into the gift and just picked up a card as an obligatory act. I buy them more for birthdays and mothers/fathers days but for x-mas I want to demonstrate some effort, not to mention the receiver is more excited to get a good gift rather than a card. They're particularly good for friends & family out of state, it saves on shipping oosts and you don't see them enough to know what they really like.

17. I'll be giving at least one this year
My mom will be getting a nice big gift card from Wawa so she can buy gas there - she's on a fixed income and a few fillups will definitely help her out in that regard.

7. I'm more afraid of what people might pick out for me.
I just got an email from Borders saying you can make personalized gift cards this year!! I guess you email them a picture and pay some money and they mail out a card with the giftee's picture on it :o On their site it looks like a neat idea, it's $4.95.

14. It depends on what they're for.
I don't need anything from Bed, Bath and Beyond, and I rarely eat in restaurants. As for Walmart - ewwwwww.

But if you give me one for Book Sense (the independent book sellers) or eQuilter, I'll love you to death.

20. I love getting gift cards, especially to book stores.
The people in my life know I love books, so when they give me a gift card to a bookstore, I really appreciate it.

Gift cards to other places are also nice. My daughter and son-in-law gave me a gift certificate to my favorite candle store for my birthday last month, and I got lots of great smelling candles there.
