Hey Wayne...STFU. Johnny APOLOGIZED to you. Dead men can't apologize twice.
For the record: Yes, Johnny Carson DID make more than a few "gay jokes" at Newton's expense. Yes, Newton confronted him and threatened to "knock him on his ass" if he didn't stop. Yes, Carson apologized...and stopped. So for Newton to be traveling over this ground again sucks ass. Newton obviously didn't accept the apology. Too fucking bad. I'm not defending Carson's actions...I'm just saying that he gave Newton what he asked for, and apologized, and he's dead, so what the hell else does he want?

Wayne Newton: Johnny Carson ‘mean-spirited’

Veteran entertainer Wayne Newton lashed out at the late Johnny Carson, branding the late-night legend a “mean-spirited human being.” Newton made the remarks during an interview Thursday night with CNN’s Larry King. Newton, who appeared on “Dancing With the Stars” this season and plans to go on tour with the group, told King he had a hard time when Carson began making fun of him.

“Well, what happened is I had done his show many, many times and considered him a friend of mine. And all of a sudden, a whole new brand of humor started to be displayed by him. And he was in that humor questioning my masculinity,” Newton said during the interview.

The Las Vegas crooner said Carson ‘s barbs implying he was gay came very often. Newton told King he attempted to reach out to the “Tonight Show” host over the issue. “I called his agents, I called his manager, I called his attorney. I went through probably a year-and-a-half of trying to reach him,” he said. “And when none of that worked, I went to see him.”

Newton said he went to the NBC lot and confronted Carson, threatening him with physical violence. “I went to NBC, Burbank, and walked down the halls into his office, and Freddy de Cordova, his producer, was in the office with him. And I walked in, unannounced, I said to Freddy, I said, would you excuse us, please? He was so shocked that he did get up and leave,” he recounted. “And I said to Mr. Carson, I said, ‘I don’t know what friend of yours I’ve killed, I don’t know what child of yours I’ve hurt, I don’t know what food I’ve taken out of your mouth, but these jokes about me will stop and they’ll stop now or I will kick your ass’.”

1. Newton is one grotesque looking guy.
One (or more?) too many trips to the nip 'n tuck guys.
and the dyed jet black hair.
He's a redhead.
The guy is seriously weird.

2. Well, Newton was asked about it. Should he have lied? Said it was no big deal?
Frankly, Carson could be an asshole. I doubt anyone could become the king of television for 20 years and not be a bit of an asshole. That's the nature of big business. Anyway, I remember Carson doing those routines when I was a kid and kind of cringing at the caustic tone, thinking, "Damn, that's kinda hard." As a middle schooler I was teased a lot and I certainly recognized that same vicious put down humor when I saw it on TV.

Count me on Wayne Newton's side on this one.

3. That's not my point.
I have no doubts that Carson was an asshole. None at all. I'd bet the farm on it.

And if I were Wayne Newton and found myself in that position, I might have walked into his office and threatened to knock him on his ass too.

But Newton tells the story today like it happened yesterday. He hasn't let it go. Maybe he should have just walked into that office 34 years ago an clocked Johnny...just started raining fucking blows down on him without saying a word. Leave him bloody and then go get a sandwich or something.

Instead, he's telling the story 34 years later as if he's still looking for some kind of payback. Yes, he was asked about it. Another way of responding might have been "Yeah, Larry, he REALLY pissed me off and I threatened to kick his ass, but he apologized. Let's talk about something else."

Just sayin'...

10. Hmm. Yeah. It's as if he really *didn't* get what he wanted...
...34 years ago, and as if it's eaten at him ever since. Or he'd be brushing off the question with "We worked it out."

7. The classic "two wrongs don't make a right" theory...
Carson was "visibly shaken" when Newton stormed into his office in 1973, and he did "cease and desist"...immediately. So yeah, the macho bluster...especially when it's directed toward a dead man...is a bit sad.

It reminds me of the scene in Sylvester Stallone's "Cobra" (God, what a bad flick) where he messes with the heads of a few local gang punks outside of his apartment building. When he's well out of sight, one of them kicks his car and the others start high-fiving and woo-hooing him and saying "YEAH! SHOW HIM!"

So for Newton to make these comments in 2007, all I can say is "He really showed Johnny."

9. Conveniently, Carson is no longer alive to confirm the tale...
...of Newton's heroic--nay, Herculean, surely--bullying.

Crybaby snapped after freakin' jokes, did he?

15. Beats me! I mean, from his woven, teased, dyed, krazy-glued, down-filled hairloft
to his separate-but-unequal eyes, to his wrap-around teeth - this guy out-Trumps Trump
and Joan Rivers, combined.
Not a natural bone in his body.
Always thought he was one of the creepiest people around, and he only gets more ludicrous with age.

Just keepin' it real, Wayne! Danke shoen.

13. Carson refused to meet his half-black granddaughter...
And he financially supported his chronically drunk son -- the girl's father -- on the condition that he ABANDON the girl and her mother.

The girl's mother should've gotten a good lawyer and sued the nuts off the old man for alienation of parental affection.

Newton is RIGHT about Carson's character, whether you want to hear it or not. The man was vicious -- just a total scumbag all the way through.

Really, he should have gone ahead and kicked Carson's ass without waiting for any worthless apology.
