The irony of evolution in our "society"
Early in humankind, humans lived near sources of water and food. Water and food they took regularly to survive. They'd also beat up their neighbors if they became a threat.

Fast forward to 2003, and witness how we've "evolved":

We sell water and food because we must capitalize, exploit, and profit on the goods which God kindly gave us. Food and water we need to take regularly to survive. We work for corporations, who exist to make a profit for a handful of people and waste our planet's resources at the same time. Corporations find ways to beat other corporations in a way that allows them to sleep at night, it's all just a game. Oh yeah, people still beat up on their neighbors if they are seen as a threat.

Oh well. I suppose this means evolution is a directly equated to how much we can turn free necessities into for-profit commodities.

1. No, not "evolution", that's all "progress"
I agree with you, dude. It's weirded out, and occupies much of my thinking, becuase there has to be a better way than the path we're on, without going back to tribal nomads with no technology other than sticks and rocks.

I just haven't found the perfect point yet. :-)

2. Certain Native American tribes figured it out
Unfortunately, the world's population is so large, and three times as pig-headed when they're not being willingly-led sheep, that there may not be a way to get off the path that we're on. Certainly not by conventional methods or by choice, especially when money is involved. Any civilization that caves in to greed is uncivilized. And when Bush* speaks of freedoms that other people hate, it boils down to "greed" being the freedom that he* supports. :scared:

3. I've often said we took the wrong turn when we developed agriculture
Which occurred relatively recently in the long history of human existence. We are not constitutionally prepared for all the things that progress has created. We are like children with car keys. And like any species whose populations grew too big for their environment, many will be hungry all their short lives while others will survive by feeding on their own kind.
