From the producers of Neon Genesis Evangelion and animated by Production I.G. (Ghost in the Shell), FLCL takes animation to yet another level.

Naota wants to be normal. But with a talented brother leaving Japan for the US to play baseball, everyone now looks at him a bit differently. His brother's girlfriend is acting strange and now there's an even stranger girl hitting on him.

Literally.
With a bass guitar.

Oh, did I mention the robots that keep springing from his head?

Get ready for this shocking, funny, and right out freaky show about adolescence, expectations and alien intrigue.

Cartoon Central at Midnight ET.

2. I'm picky with my anime
While I think the animation of all three above is great, I never got into any of them. Maybe I wouldn't be a good choice for making suggestions to you.

I actually don't have many suggestions, as I've only recently gotten back into anime after not watching it for many years.

5. Look like pretty good suggestions.

I have been meaning to see Reign, and the others look good too: did a quick check.

Thanks!

7. FLCL is not like anything you have ever seen before
It is a very tight very seemingly crazy 6 episode series. It is all about connecting the subtext. You will not get it on the first viewing. This is a series that requires some thought to get. Oh, and Haruka is completely insane.

6. Trigun
Starts off goofy but turns around. It has a heavy dose of Buddhist ideology smacked up against a bunch of other cultural icons. Very interesting series. Not what you expect.

A new series not in the states yet called Hale Nochi Guu. Like FLCL its another WTF is going on series. Only this one is longer than six episodes.

Serial Experiment Lain is a dark WTF series. Very moody but very interesting.

There are of course the classic Anime movies that you should make the tour of. Akira, Grave of the Fireflies, Armitage, Ghost in the Shell, and the recent Metropolis all would be time well spent viewing.

Inuyasha is an excellent series from the author of Ranma 1/2. Characters that will draw you in before you know it.

8. Doh, Forgot Chobits
A series by Clamp. Clamp typically do Shogo Anime. Chobits dances on the line between Shogo and standard Anime fair. In the end the charm of this series will either kill you or suck you in.

9. I've seen the first episode of Chobits
And I agree with your statements. I really didn't expect to like the show, based on the plot, but the charm and quality of the storytelling won me over.

10. The current trend
In Anime seems to be slightly goofy start but story arch takes you into a very serious plot line. Chobits is just like this. It touches on some very very serious issues.
