QUESTION FOR THOSE COMING TO BOSTON GATHERING
Maine Mary is coming down from maine (duh) and does not want to hazard the bizarre comings and goings of the city. Can't blame her. She is wondering where the best place to park her car outwside the city and come in via train is. I suggested Alewife Station, as it has a big garage and is on the Red line only a few stops from Central. Anyone have any better suggestions?

1. Alewife is probably the best.

I think that parking at the Charles Hotel isn't that bad either.

2. How about Wonderland?
Alewife is hard to get to coming from Maine. I used to park there all the time but I was coming from Acton.

I remember people used to park at Wonderland and take the Blue Line in. It's easier to reach from Route 1.

If MM is going to park somewhere how about Portland and take the train or the bus?

I'm sorry I can't come down for that. It's our anniversary and we've made plans already.

6. Good idea.
It'll probably take about 30-45 minutes to get to Central but it is easy to reach Wonderland from Route 1. Also, atleast from my experience, there tends to be more traffic jams around Alewife than Wonderland.

9. Alewife is a bargain
It's only $4.50 per day, and just a couple of stops to Central. It's not too bad a drive from Maine, I do it quite often. Just go from Rt 95 to 128 to Route 2 and follow the signs to the T. You're there!

3. How about Wellington Station?
Edited on Wed Aug-06-03 10:05 AM by notmyprez
It's on the Orange Line in Medford, near Wellington Circle. Very close to Rte 93, probably not too bad from Rte 1 or 95, but I'm not sure because I never drive in that direction. They have a lot of parking there (it's a commuter stop like Alewife). Then it's a few stops to the Red Line, then into Cambridge on that.

Alewife is easier for taking the T into where we'll be in Cambridge, but if it's difficult to get to, Wellington might work.

Edited for typo

4. Yeah, but then it's a 45 minute t ride into Cambridge
I'll be coming from Malden, which is only a stop away from Wellington. It's kind of a pain in the ass to take the T all the way to Central on the red line.

I didn't realize that.

5. She could park in my area in Cleveland Circle in Brookline/Brighton
there is adequate non-resident on street parking (I still have NY plates and have lived here for two years:) It is about a 45 min T-ride if you take the C-Line all the way into Park Street and then back out to Central. Or, if you like the walk, you can take the B-Line to BU West, hop off, and walk over the BU bridge and up Brookline Ave. to Central Sq. Just a suggestion if the others don't work, it's free and overnight, and spots on Sat. afternoon are very easy to find.
