Yeah, they charge $9.95 - but, what's the catch? Thanks, in advance, for any info.

1. I have Juno which is the same company now
United Online is both. It is fine. The only problem I have is the way they notify you of email. A green light comes on. But sometimes it does not seem to bring in the email unless you click on the email (without the light). (And yes, I played with the preferences in Outlook express, it did not help) But every time you log on it brings in the mail.

I quit AOL to switch and I get online much faster now. Also, if you like to leave your computer online while you play around it cuts you off after about 20 minutes of inactivity.

2. I've been a juno guy forever...
...and I've got no complaints. As far as I've been able to tell, there's no hidden catch at all. It's just plain ole 56k dialup service. I guess if you don't live where you can get a local call it wouldn't be real useful, but I think most middling-sized and above cities are covered.

I say go for it.

P.S. And a bonus is that nobody seems to bother writing any viruses for their email client.

I see where Wal-Mart has Internet service for $9.94. One thing about Net-Zero is even if you change providers you still get 10 hours free a month and you can keep your e-mail address.

You can even try it 10 hours free a month, but it will have banners to reduce the screen size. What I wonder about is the $14.95 plan that is supposed to be faster because it blocks pop-ups.

3. I have no idea about their rates, but the 56k limitation on modems
is bullshit. I once got a direct file transfer from someone on an OC-3, my poor modem peaked at 14Kbps, I had to restart after the fact (this was around 1998).

Needless to say, if they can push it, your modem speed is capable of 5x standard. If you can get that for 9.95, and cable/dsl isn't available, then go for it.
