6. I'm sure they have the info
about where everyone is (isp #, general location) who's logged on.

The only problem with taking notes and makin bidnez is that lots of people (oops, me) will go off for hours and come back to a page that's just been sitting there. Even if you close the screen, it doesn't turn off the page...

26. Well, DU is set up so that you remain logged on...

...even when you aren't actually online. Otherwise, we'd have to type in our passwords each time we come back to the site.

That being the case, if DU implemented a "who's online now" feature, it would just show everyone as being signed on (whether they really are online or not).

I think they'd have to redesign the logon system to do what you want.

36. If DU gets some advertisers who have lots of money to spend,
then it could be worthwhile for a TV rating company to get involved in designing a software module to estimate the size of the audience for the ads.

For example, the module could send private messages according to some semi-systematic and semi-random formula, including some proportion of people who posted within the past hour and people who didn't. Information about how promptly people responded (categorized, for example, in one of three ways: within one minute, within five minutes, or much longer) would help in the estimate of how many people are online and actually reading.
