Who is planning to start a journal/diary this year?
I am. I usually start one, get about two weeks in and give it up. The main reason seems to be that I compare myself unfairly to professional writers and expect sublime prose to come pouring out of my pen, and it just doesn't happen! I bought a nice leather journal in CA and when it gets here will start writing daily (I hope). (It has to "get here" because as usual I overshopped and had to pack a box to mail home!!)
Not for the new year specifically, but because I do better mentally when I have a place to vent/let out feelings. I'm sorry you feel pressure to be a better writer in your journal... maybe you can have a new year's resolution to just write for yourself, and no one else? :)
