Bertha Katzenengel - or - Bertha Venation? Help me decide.

I'm thinking of going back to Bertha Venation. What do you think?

My original name here was Bertha Venation, borrowed shamelessly from "Torch Song Trilogy." I appropriated it while singing in a community chorus. The director decreed that in order to show we ourselves supported the chorus, our annual dues (amount decided individually) would be printed in the programs along w/ the other donors. I didn't like that. I try not to go banging pots and calling out my gifts. So I told the printer "my name is Bertha Venation" and that's how it was printed.

I adore that name: "Bertha Venation." (I also adore Harvey Fierstein.)

I changed to Bertha Katzenengel (German, loosely "cats' angel") when I got into feral cat TNR seriously. I no longer have the energy to pursue that actively. I'm lending out my traps and that's all for now. So I'm thinking of changing back. (All of those that we care for are now spayed/neutered.)

And as for just Bertha: I have become Bertha. It's my favorite nickname and my alter ego. Remember the song about Bertha Butt & the Butt Sisters? My sisters are certainly butt sisters.... I also like it because in a Rita Mae Brown (I think) novel, I read the phrase "she's a friend of Bertha's" -- equivalent to "a friend of Dorothy's."

Now that everyone knows the stories of how I chose my names -- and why my beloved's name here is Mrs. Venation -- what do you think: stay w/ Katzenengel, or go back to Venation?

I just think "sweet" whichever name I see. :D

I also love Harvey Fierstein. I think watching Torch Song Trilogy with my mom as a teenager probably contributed to my formation as a liberal. :)

..."Birth of a Nation" is about the most racist movie ever made by a major filmmaker. Glorifies the KKK... but not many people today have seen it or heard of it, so maybe it's a "moo" point.

when i read Bertha's posts here... I think we're all smart enough to deduce that the film and her name are not related.

I thought Bertha Venation was a pretty creative name. The PC police get offended a bit too easily. IMHO

Despite this being all text - I do still have the pronunciation of words floating around in my head.

But I haven't had any problems since you became Katzenengel (here I learn that I also find it easier to type Venation), you're still the same delightful Bertha either way around.

you're fantastic either way - I think of you as "Bertha", whether it's Katzenengel or Venation. I actually shortened Katzenengel in my mind and just called you "Bertha Katz" (because of the Waldorf Cat Spa or Retreat or Emporium...)
