Disney World restaurant bans children

Sat Jan 5, 4:11 PM ET

Beginning this week, children under 10 are no longer welcome at Victoria & Albert's in the Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. Victoria & Albert's is Walt Disney World's only restaurant with an AAA five-diamond rating.

"We want to be the restaurant that's available for that adult experience," said general manager Israel Perez.

Only about three families a month ever brought young children to Victoria & Albert's, said Rosemary Rose, Disney's vice president for food, beverage and merchandise operations.

Men are required to wear jackets, and women must wear dresses or pantsuits. The hushed atmosphere features live harp music, and the menu, which changes daily, offers seven-course dinners that can last as long as three hours. Prices start at $125 a person.

Rose noted that there are plenty of dining options for families at Disney, which World has 97 other full-service restaurants.

1. Some adults, especially the Bush elite, WANT to eat children when they dine out.
End the banning of children at Disney Restaurants!

She responds "I'm getting a divorce, you overgrown adult child!"

3. They have no p;lace in V&A -- it's very, very fancy posh and NICE
The atmosphere is part of the dining experience. The food is GREAT. I've always wanted to do the Chet's Tab;e tasting menu.

6. There are other high-end restaurants like V&A that should do the same thing
I've dined in some of the fanciest restaurants in Philadelphia that are clearly not made for kids and yet I've seen them in there.

I have no problem with this ban.

4. Given the number of adults I know who are addicted to Disney
I think it's good that they have at least one place that caters strictly to adults. :)

14. WTF is a pantsuit these days?
Edited on Sun Jan-06-08 07:32 PM by Gormy Cuss
What a charming throwback to the 1970s. To dictate that any rag (dress) is appropriate but pants are only acceptable if they're matchy matchy with a jacket is so ridiculous. Would a sweater jacket pass muster? Probably not because the word "sweater" isn't in the dress code.

The policy stipulates that men are required to wear jackets, but not a necktie or pants for that matter.

Banning children from anything in Disney makes the Mouse cry, IMHO.
on edit: :sarcasm: I really don't care what the policies are at the house of mouse.

And it is top notch and well worth the price. The Chef's Table is incredible!

Every time I've been there, I haven't noticed many children.

18. As the mother of a 5 year old daughter
and in a family who goes to Walt Disney World as often as we can afford it, I have no problem with Victoria and Albert's limiting childen over 10. V&A is the best restaurant on the property. As another poster mentioned, a dinner can take 3 hours or more to eat - that's way too long for young children, even the best behaved, to loose it. Nope, not a problem for me.

21. Shouldn't you change your title? Technically only one restaurant bans children
I have no problem with the ban. One restaurant out of 97 is fine.

23. I ate there on my wedding night.
simply amazing. 3+ hours, 7+ courses, wine, music, etc. And they let us keep the menus. And probably the only time I'll ever be able to afford it.

I really dont think kids that young would appreciate the food there anyway. Take them to the Polynesian for the luau and dance show instead.

That seems very republican and snooty.

Edit: Just to clarify, I'm not calling people who go there snooty, just the policy.
