I must ask, is it strange ...
... that I don't want to get married? Surely, I must not be the only one.

My family won't leave me alone about it. Nagging me about dating, asking why I wouldn't want to have kids, etc. Is it so hard to believe that one could be alone (with friends) and be happy?

1. Not at all...
I think anyone who's been married - and divorced - thinks you're being very wise.

;-)

2. I don't think so
It bothers me to hear non-married people being pestered about marriage. I also get annoyed at childless people being pestered about parenthood.

It's up to us individually to know what is right for ourselves. I can't imagine telling someone how they should live their life. Live the way you want to live.

3. It's definitely considered abnormal in our society
I'm 35 and I've never been married. I have no desire to get married and/or have kids. My family used to nag me about it, too, until they finally realized that I was telling the truth when I said I'm happy being single. They've all just come to terms with my weirdness I guess. I'm not a hermit, however (nothing against hermits, mind you ;)), I do enjoy the company of friends and family.

5. I'm the same way.
I'm not a hermit, but I'm just genuinely happy being alone and maintaining friendships. A guy's gotta be happy, right?

I suppose I just needed to vent about it. They've even gone so far at times as to inquire about my sexual orientation, since I don't date!

7. Don't go messing your happiness to please someone else
It's much better to be alone and happy than to be hitched and miserable.

11. Never married
Never wanted to be. It just never appealed to me. I never dreamed of a wedding day when I was little girl (I hate wearing dresses). My parents have been happily married for almost 39 years. I MIGHT live with someone (in sin, of course ), but that would be it. I hate sharing my space, and having a kid is more than enough of that for me.

12. Gotcha, I knew you had a child, just made the incorrect assumption
that you had been married.

My marriage aversion often makes people think I must have been previously married  Which only strengthens my aversion!!

Right now I would rather have kids than get married because love with another person on level of intimacy is a fucking joke ::I am bitter::

9. The only thing 'strange' is that people keep asking you about it...
..its like asking married people when they're going to get a divorce, or asking fat people when they're going to lose weight. Really, expecting you to conform to a narrow(er) definition of what others find 'normal' is unfair. As one who is not married, I finally began asking (with levity) the above questions in response to the "whenyagettinmarried?" queries.. Nobody bothers me with it any more.

13. Not strange.
No one's business. Once you've state your position, that should by you a few years' peace, at least.

15. Collect clips from Futurama of Amy's parents pestering her about grandchildren.
And play them whenever the subject comes up.
