:eyes:

I'm not even a Cowboys fan, but holy shit, the hatred for them and the pleasure taken at their demise is ridiculous.

I don't mind joshing around. People can hate on whatever teams they want, and I doubt this will have very long-lasting effects on whatever remaining sanity the Lounge possesses. :D

New England sports fans can still repent
You've been arrogant only for a year or so. There's still time to renounce your disfavorable ways. :D

Fans of the "America's Team" and the Jankees, though — their arrogance is steeped in history. They shall surely burn in hell, and there will be much rejoicing.

23. NFL Films started it, NOT the Cowboys.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/America%27s_Team

Bob Ryan, the Vice President and editor-in-chief of NFL Films, coined this for the Cowboys in 1979. After preparing and editing the team’s 1978 season highlight film he had to come up with a title for the film.<4> He was quoted as saying:

"I wanted to come up with a different twist on their team highlight film. I noticed then, and had noticed earlier, that wherever the Cowboys played, you saw people in the stands with Cowboys jerseys and hats and pennants. Plus, they were always the national game on television."

From your own link:

# Pittsburgh Steelers owner Art Rooney dismissed the suggestion that the Steelers were America's Team. 'We didn't want that,' Rooney said. 'We're Pittsburgh's team. We feel strongly about that'

As for the Dodgers — well, that's kind of a straw man, isn't it?

45. It may be a straw man, but I think most teams would have capitalized on that.
Obviously there are teams that wouldn't as you point out, but my opinion is that most teams would covet that label.

I think they've played 5 times in playoffs in last 8-9 years...

At least your team has the better management to have kept its core players together..They'll probably win 1-2 more titles before Duncan retires...

I'll never understand why Buss traded away Shaq for next to nothing...LA could have stayed competitive for many more years, by building around the Shaq/Kobe nucelus...

71. I am a bona fide, died-in-the-wool Cowboys fan
and have been since I was about 10 years old. I love the Boys, but I HATE Jerry Jones.

The disappointing end to the Cowboys season is helped a little by the fact that the team I hate the most, the SF 49ers, had a horrible season.

To the OP, I understand that it gets pretty nasty, but the trash-talking is part of the deal.

There was a bunch of trash about my team losing last week and while it irritated me, I understood it too.
There are good reasons to dislike Washington, and I understand it. If people want to trash my team, thats fine. Hell, Trotsky (a DU poster whom I like and respect)goes around calling em the Foreskins and admitting his dislike and was probably pretty happy they lost. Thats fine and I don't think less of him.
I'm sure most Dallas fans understand that after taunting other fans all season they are gonna get it back.
As I said, if its someone I like, I will commiserate.

37. Dude
I have to deal with "Cowboys fans" on a regular basis, and so far, the ones I have met are total dicks... or they are rednecks.

I felt bad about feeling this way until I went to watch a game at a pub/sports bar, and the "Cowboys fans" were calling the members of the other team "fags" and "pussies"... until they started getting beat.

I was really glad that they got trounced after hearing such homophobia and bigotry - over a football game none the less! (I'm a hockey fan, so I just plain don't get it!)

44. I really don't get this concept, either.
Or the fact that people, as fans or players, feel hate or pain in this context. It's a game. Granted there's a lot of money at stake but everyone gets paid pretty damn well, win or lose. And granted, it is better to win, but the loss of a game is just that. The sun still comes up tomorrow, does it not?

48. If you are a fan, you have an emotional attachment.
Yes, the sun still comes up, but it's difficult to invest your emotions in something and have it abruptly end. It is genuine pain. Not like the loss of a loved one or anything, but for a short period there's real pain.

133. There's an attachment, but I'm not sure I'd call it "emotional"
You want to see your team win, but the possibility of losing is what makes it interesting/exciting.

I'm disappointed they lost, but I'll still watch the playoffs next weekend, and enjoy them almost as much. I mean, c'mon, SOMEBODY's gotta beat New England!

The mere presence of Jones on the Dallas sideline was enough to root against them. As a Skins fan I need no excuse though. And it's amazing how much of a crybaby Tony Romo can be when things aren't going his way.

Sheffield Nelson was the CEO of ArkLa Gas, sold Jones land in the Arkoma basin cheap, then of course he found gas :P and sold it back for millions.

Jones and Nelson ripped off the ratepayers, the shareholders, and got away with it.

Funny how they were at University of Arkansas together as well...

all this came up during the 1990 governor's race Nelson against Clinton

unfortunately, there is enough cover to hide behind that there have been no charges

You remember how tasty they were though. Remember how we "left them in the car on accident"?

131. Well I got told FU Aggie lover...
By a Cowboys fan who is a Tech fan as well. They "Love" to remind me all the time about A&M, and I take it. But give it back to them about the Cowboys and I get threatened with bodily harm. Sad.

132. Are there even any admitted Cowboys fans here?
Cuz I'm thinking it's OK to trash-talk them. But I haven't seen any lately.

134. Being a Steelers fan I root against the Cowboys on general principle
but I have family and friends who are Cowboys fans and I definitely can't envision rubbing their nose in it anytime the team lost.

I was pulling for the Giants yesterday although I personally felt that only GB and Dallas were capable of taking on the Patriots. However, given that the Giants almost took down the Pats just a few weeks ago it's possible that N.E. vs. NY may be a good game if it goes that way.

135. Try being a Yankees fan
it's way worse than this, and I'd say there's no one nearly as obnoxious on the Yankees as TO.

Add some sausage or meatballs.
