I just got a call from the Police Department...

telling me that there is a standoff with an armed man just down the street from my office. "Please stay inside and avoid the area for the next few hours. We'll let you know when it's safe to come out."

Well, ain't that a kick in the head. No explanation of what caused the standoff.

2. Yeah - checked the local stations, and they didn't have it..

but the local paper had a "breaking news - police standoff" banner - no further info yet.

and it's also on an access road to the highway, so I'm sure that complicates things.

if they only decided to notify people a short time ago, I'm guessing they think it may go on for quite a bit longer.

the guy had surrendered and roads would be reopened momentarily. Sounds like everything ended OK. Thank goodness!

14. Glad it's over. They may have notified you

because it was nearing the end and the guy was either coming out or they were entering to get him. Either way, that's when shots or violence are more likely to occur.
