Lotta weight lifted...
Just wanted to say thanks for the http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=105x7356380">good vibes loungers, they seem to have done the trick.

They figured out what was going on with my grandpa's knee (and I would assume that's probably what was bothering his foot too) and he was actually up and walking about his hospital room a little bit today with the help of a physical therapist. And it looks like he's gonna be there long enough that the insurance company is gonna have to pony up the cash for any rehab he might need to get walking about properly again. :) So long story short: he'll be mobile again, which means that we can take care of him properly and he doesn't have to feel completely helpless. My grandfather has always been a very vibrant man, and I think for him feeling completely helpless was a lot more debilitating than the actual physical debilitation was.

Anyhow, I think I'm gonna relax, have a beer and experiment with my new acoustic guitar pickup for a bit. :) I might post some interesting stuff later if I record anything good.

And before I say 'Any requests?', let me just say no. I never learned how to play Freebird.

So.... any requests? :)

1. Do you play any "early" guitar music? Medieval, etc.?
Great to hear about your grandpa!

3. I dabbled in lute a little bit in the early music ensemble at my last school.
Funny that you should ask that though... I was just toying around with a renaissance style theme from the videogame that had such a nifty renaissance style soundtrack that it got me interested in composing music. :) I'll see if I can record that.

Obviously that one'll be straight up sound, no electric distortion needed. :)

12. Hmm...
I think it woulda sounded better if I'd recorded this one by mic rather than by pickup. Ah well, that's why I'm practicing with it. To learn the ins and outs. :)

http://www.stickmanltd.com/practicesessions/robinhood.mp3
This is a collection of a few of the simpler themes from that game. There was also one piece in that game that was sung and had strummed chords, as soon as I get a chance to figure those chords out I'll probably record that too. I'm just that much of a geek.

15. I didn't write it, just picked it out by ear and played it. :)
I started out as a violinist, so I'm better at dealing with the simpler non-chord melodies, hence why I did that one instead of the one with chords.

My older brother started teaching himself guitar too, and he started out as a pianist. So he's great at dealing with chords, but he can't do solo stuff to save his life. We're both totally jealous of each other because of that. :)

21. As requested, my cover of Working Class Hero.
I didn't get most of the fingerpicking in, just the strumming and singing. Not bad for a few minutes work though. :)

To be fair though, like most of John's songs, it was fairly simple.

30. He's the only one on this side of the family that isn't, actually.
My great-grandmother was a rather famous opera singer in her day (and a woman's chess champion too. That's how my grandpa managed to impress her enough to be able to marry her daughter... by beating her at chess.), and just about everyone else on that side of the family is musical in some way or another.

13. Okay, here's one I recorded while I was waiting for requests...
I'm not sure exactly where this song came from. Most of the stuff I write is all dark and minor key-ish. One day, out of nowhere, this song just popped out of my head and onto paper. It's in a major key. And it's not even really in my range. I'm a bass, and it's medium tenor range. But I finally got around to recording it. Maybe I was chanelling someone else when I wrote it?

I figure I'll take as many random and interesting classes as I can right now before I settle on anything concrete. Especially since I don't know how good most of the programs at MCC are yet.

I've heard good things about FLCC though. :)

Hmm... I know most of Stairway, I just don't know the little interlude in the middle. But my voice is getting a little tired, so I'm not sure I could hit those high notes today... :P

I usually can. It ain't pretty, but I can hit 'em.

I used to be able to play Aria de Mezzo Caraterre on the violin but I haven't touched it in years. Bad experiences at school.

32. Never tried FF music on the violin...
Just some of the basic easy chord/arpeggio stuff on the keyboard.

And some of the simpler themes on recorder, but that was just me playing around and wasting time in my early music ensemble. :)

33. Okay, the studio's mostly shut down for the night.
People trying to sleep, so I can't make too much noise.

Only things I can record now are my bass (electric: I can listen to it via headphones and it makes almost no noise.) and my keyboard. (once again, headphones. And it's not set up right now anyway, so it's kind of a moot point. And I'm not very good at the keyboard anyway. :) )

Yeah... that might a bit more than my little acoustic guitar can do, even with the pickup.

There are some things you just need an actual electric guitar for.

Well, technically two, but I recorded them at the same time. This acoustic pickup is pretty handy. :) Can record an electric guitar track with that, and then I can record the acoustic guitar with the mic at the same time. That way I don't have to lay down two seperate tracks if I want to do an acoustic and an electric version of the same song. :)
