One of my cats just had 5 CUPS of fluid removed. (Yes, there's a picture of her inside.)

We thought that a cancer she had previously had come back, but it turns out it was loads and loads of fluid. 5 cups, or two pounds worth. Now we're doing the ol' "wait and see". If the fluid comes back quickly (within two weeks or so), she most likely has FIP and her condition is grave. If not...well, then I have no idea, actually. :)

A picture (a few years old now, but you get the basic idea):

3. Many years ago I had a FIP outbreak in my former heard of cats.
All but one kitten made it. It took a week on IV drips and abdominal drains but my adult kitties were fine afterwards. The good thing is it seems that afterwards the kitties that made it had a resistance to the virus. Good luck with your cat.

4. I'm sorry to hear that. Our precious Ben passed away a couple of years
ago from FIP. The poor little guy was only a year old. Such a beautiful kitty!

9. Here it is...
Feline Infectious Peritonitis is a syndrome that results from wide-spread infiltration of the body’s organs with inflammatory tissues called “pyogranulomas.” The resulting global inflammation leads to the failure of the infiltrated organs, fevers unresponsive to antibiotics, and often the accumulation of thick yellow fluid in the belly or chest. The “wet” form of FIP, includes the effusion of thick, yellow fluid as noted. The “dry” form is more insidious, leading to death over a much longer period (often years). Both forms are felt to have 100% mortality.

Apparently our cat Sonia, shown in one of my pics may have it also, but may live a full and healthy life (she is fine two years later).

6. for your Baby
Dear God, you have given us care over all living things; protect and bless the animals who give us companionship and delight, make us their true friends and worthy companions. Amen.

Dear God, protect and bless all beings that breathe, keep all evil from them, and let them sleep in peace. Amen.
--Albert Schweitzer, "Memoirs of Childhood and Youth"

May God, who heals the sick, defends the vulnerable, cares for the poor, and liberates all creation from suffering and injustice, bring us all to that peaceable kingdom when all creatures shall live in harmony and all suffering shall be transformed into joy. Amen.
