I played for a woman's 98th birthday party today...
A couple of us donated our services to a silent auction; and the winner asked us to play for his mom's birthday. She was so happy she cried. What a sweet lady! I hope she makes it to 100 and beyond!

2. What pieces did you play?
The son found a good present for his mother -- not easy to do at her age!

8. You probably know those Beethoven Duos...
written originally for clarinet and bassoon...and stuff from Irma Clark that works pretty well as a duo. :hi:

5. A few movements of Beethoven Duets
and a bunch of short, easy pieces by Handel, Corelli, Telemann, and Bach. She loved it all. For 98, she was pretty spry, too.

6. She's such a sweetheart, I told her son
I'd be glad to come play for her next year, too.

7. Did you ask her what her secret to longevity is?...
...and can we bottle and drink it?

9. I wouldn't be surprised if it was her home...
She lives very close to the water with a spectacular view. She can watch the sunrise over the water every morning. She's lived in the place for more than 40 years. I hope she can keep on living there...I can't imagine how she could stand being taken to live elsewhere.

10. That's amazing. And wonderful.
I have a parishioner who will turn 103 next Saturday. And she's healthier than me!! It's wonderful to see people reaching such ages--especially if they're relatively healthy.

12. She likes to boast that she has all her own teeth and all her own joints.
And she's quick to point out that she lives in an assisted living facility, NOT a nursing home (it's true). If I live to be 103, I want it to be like her 103!!

And yes, let's toast to her health! :toast:

14. A toast!!!
I'll have to do it with Pepsi since I don't have a glass of wine or champagne. Here's wishing this woman lives to be over 100.
