2. I remember winter being pretty harsh.
It is not as bad here in Ohio, but it is still winter weather. We don't get quite so much snow or have so many below zero days. It was humid in the summer too, though it is about as bad here. I remember having a hard time making it up that hill where Pleasant meets Stafford (where the Epicopal church is.)

12. the town is pretty good about keeping up with the plowing these days
that's my experience anyway. Of course, if we get a storm I'm more likely to stay in than venture out if I don't have to.

We get a few cold days, sure. Par for the course. And the snow... so far nothing more than 10" at a time. That's this year anyway.

3. Well, there's always California.
Our weather's mostly great and though there are a few pockets of right wing stupidity (Orange and Placer counties are the worst ones with much population) for the most part it's a pretty cool place, politically.

7. Come up to Minnesota
we'll toughen you up. You'll be walking around in shorts in the snow in no time.

Actually the only people that do that are tourists. Natives know damn well it's too cold to do anything that foolish.

13. I think temperature has tons to do with intelligence

FACTS ABOUT CONSCIOUSNESS AND BRAIN TEMPERATURE
~~~~~ News From the Research Notes ~~~~~~
Recently I explained to BroJon readers about my research into the affect of brain temperature and the human cognitive state called consciousness. Put simply when we are awake, our normal brain temperature is about 98 to 99 degrees F (37 degrees C). When we are asleep the brain temperature drops to about 95 to 97 degrees F (35 degree C). This sleep/wake temperature change is controlled by the circadian rhythms of the body. The brain temperature and thus mental consciousness can also be controlled externally, by changing the temperature.- snip
If the outside air temperature goes a few degrees higher and even the blood temperature starts to rise, the thyroid gland kicks in with the second stage of its function. It releases a hormone which acts on your largest organ - your skin. At first, it opens the blood vessels in the skin to dump heat directly to the air, this is called a reddening or flushing of the skin, and the skin feels warm to the touch. A few more degrees rise in temperature and the thyroid sends other hormones which tell the millions of small glands in the skin called sweat glands to take water from the blood and dump the water onto the skin surface where it evaporates and cools the body - but really it is not just to cool the body, but is cooling the blood going to your brain. The brain temperature is the critical temperature.
You want proof? Stick your arm in a bucket of warm water with a temperature of 110 degrees F (43C) and it feels uncomfortable, but no big deal. But raise your brain temperature to 110F and you'll pass out and die
19. Not the case here...
Maryland's got a bit of everything, 4 seasons..snow,ice, hot humid summers but nice spring and fall. We are very progressive, however our neighbor to the immediate south, Virginia, has about the same climate, and its much much more conservative..(hasn't gone to a democrat Presidential candidate since the 60's I think). Although Va is starting to get a wee more progressive..Maybe we can pin that on a positive effect of global warming....:)
20. the worst of both
Come to South Carolina. Arguably the worst politics in the South, and we get the "double 90s" about 30 times a summer: temp over 90 and, much worse, humidity over 90. 'It's not the heat its the humidity' is not just an adage. I visited a fried in Albuquerque, where it was 95 outside and you couldn't break a sweat. The only saving grace for this place is that I have played golf every month of the year, and we do have Charleston.
I liked NM too; went on a NM tour a few years ago and I loved the way you DON'T SWEAT!
21. Why do you think I ended up out here?
44-7 Dem in the House, 21-4 in the Senate after two recent defections! 4-0 in Congress.
Today's high, in the midst of a cold snap: near 80.
