A British businessman has bought an entire Swiss ski resort that melted down due to global warming for the princely sum of one Swiss franc, or about 45 pence.
Investor Bruno Prior saw the ad from the Ernen ski-lift company as he read his morning newspaper in London. Four months later he is the owner of four ski lifts, two machines that smooth mountain snowtracks and a restaurant on 12 miles of ski slopes - a resort that he plans to plunge £23million in to.
Ernen is a medium altitude ski resort facing hard times as the warmer weather bites into its once prosperous tourist trade.
"Mr. Prior is our lucky charm," said Heinz Seiler, who ran the Ernen ski-lift company, Sportbahnen Erner Galen, now owned by Prior. "He saved our 560-soul village from a catastrophe."
