Poll question: Do you coo over babies?
Am I the only human being on earth who doesn't just go to pieces over how adorable infants are? I mean, I don't have anything against babies, but I don't feel any instinctive urge to get all gushy and googly over them. Yet it sometimes feels like if you're anything less than worshipful and adoring of infants, you can expect a barrage of reproving glares, as if you'd just announced your intention to sacrifice a virgin to Satan or something. How do people here feel on the subject?

3. I will admit I am nuts over babies...
in a reserved sort of way. I had trouble staying pregnant, so for awhile they were a thorn in my side. Once my little shock was born, Happy fifth birthday James, I became infatuated with everything baby. I think I am coming out the other end of that now though. Must have been the progesterone.

4. After raising four kids
of my own, plus my beautiful step daughter for the past six years, I have no CHOICE but to let the instinct take over and make the goofy faces and silly words at them. A smiling baby makes me instantly in love.

Also the fact that I will have no more of my own makes me worse.

HOWEVER, I refuse to babysit babies, and to admire them as a stranger is a helluva lot different situation.

6. Warm and fuzzy feelings for me
I do go totally nuts over toddler-5 year olds, however, because they are so fun to play with and talk to.

9. Haven't had much contact with them
But I'm less of a cooer and more of an objective observer; I'd probably be more of a chatter. The whole idea of a little human under development fascinates me though.

16. I like kids better when they're interactive
My precocious 2 1/2 year old niece is lots of fun to spend time with these days because she says the wildest things. I love kid logic.

Infants are just kind of "there." It's even harder to defend my lukewarmness toward infants because I'm a female. I always make sure to say something very complimentary to their understandably proud parents, but will turn down any and all offers to hold them.

How ya doin, Kevin? :hi:

17. I'm a female, and I always refuse to hold someone's baby.
I've never held a baby in my life; never held a toddler either. I just don't have maternal instincts, and I don't care. I've softened up enough to at least smile at them, but I used to just totally ignore tham, get as far away from them as possible. Sure some babies are cute, but some are fugly.

22. People have pictures of me
holding their babies, and my facial expression is always something like "please take it away before I drop it or it produces waste." People in general are uninteresting until roughly 12 or 13, and after that, better than 90% of 'em are simply intolerable.

20. Interestingly, people are also nicer to you when you have sweet baby...
...in tow. I would rather guess that the SCREAMING baby or the tantrum-throwing toddler will draw a different reaction, but I've noticed that people are kinder and friendlier to me when I'm looking after a tiny child. You get smiles you'll never see again.

21. all my maternal instincts are sublimated
to other species. For some reason, I just can't get interested in young critters unless they have fur or fins or feathers or scales. Baby humans don't do it for me. Besides, there's that *thing* they do with graham crackers - gumming them and then wanting to touch you...*shudder*!!!

24. I find their innocence irresistable...
All ages have their charm; but seeing the wonder in an infant's eyes...the trust...how totally not fooked-up by society they are...

well, it just turns me to jelly. Goochy goo.
