JANUARY 23, 2008 Herobuilders.com OXFORD, Conn. (Wireless Flash) -- A new toy is kicking and screaming into action. For $39.95, you can have an action figure of the infamous University of Florida student who was tasered at a John Kerry speech. Last September, a University of Florida student was tasered by cops at a John Kerry speech, and his "Don't tase me bro!" scream became one of the year's most memorable quotes.
Now, the Connecticut-based toy company Hero Builders is cashing in on the free-speech fiasco with its "Don't Taz Me Bro" action figure, a 12-inch, $39.95 doll which screams the infamous catchphrase.
However, company president Emil Vicale admits the decision to make the plastic protester wasn't as easy as it sounds. "A lot of the stuff we do we're totally conflicted about," he said. "I understand freedom of speech, but when they tased him, I thought, `This is funny as hell, I can't not do this.'"
And while Vicale's devilish dolls include a scandalized Senator Larry Craig model, his morals may be kicking in with his pantiless Britney Spears doll. "I'm thinking about pulling that one," Vicale said. "It's not even a joke anymore. I'd feel unbelievably bad if something really happened."
