I know the Lounge isn't meant for politics, but...
...we really could have used that Food Stamp increase that our Dems on the Hill agreed to drop. Damn it. *sigh* I'd have picked that over the $300 check we'll be getting instead because Food Stamps go a lot further than real money does (no taxes).

Don't think badly of us. We're not lazy, tax-sucking leeches, I swear. We're full-time college students. ThinkBlue works part-time after classes while I work here at home (because childcare would cost more than I'd make at a part-time job, ya know?) So we get Food Stamps and Medicaid for me and the kidlet, although not a "check". And we really could have used that increase. The prices these days...the 8 ounce portion of cheese that used to cost $1.25 now costs $2.99. Brendan's off-brand apple juice is now $3.99 instead of $2.49. It's hard.

So yeah. Thanks loads, Congressional Rethugs and Dems. Sorry. Just disappointed.

1. Nobody should think badly of you oktoberain...
and I hope you don't think badly of yourselves, either. College education is an investment in this nation's future, and should be supported by government in whatever ways possible.

7. I know, but even some Dems don't think kindly of
people getting public assistance. I don't doubt that there are plenty of liberally-minded folks who aren't terribly sympathetic with my opinion, so it didn't seem prudent to just assume.

And thank you.

9. Oh gods YES.
He slept with it! He didn't want to hand it over before school this morning, either. I had to explain how awful it would be if he lost it or dropped it at school, before he was willing to let me put it on charge for the day, lol.

Thank you so much.

Hey. It's us. :pals:

Been there. Yeah, Congress isn't making a very good case for a Dem. majority right now.

8. I sure won't think badly of you
I know from experience the hard choices you have to make to keep afloat in this world, especially when you have kids.

Had an absolutely maddening debate about "welfare" with an entitled, ignorant *#@% in one of my classes last week. "Why should MY taxes go to support..."

That one always irks me. First of all, probably the vast majority of people who collect any kind of benefits have been paying taxes themselves. Second, as a community college student, she benfits from all kinds of government funding, paid for by .... our taxes. And third, the amount of tax dollars that go to help support people in need is infinitesimal compared to what goes to fund the military. Fucked up priorities or what? :grr:

Sorry, one of my pet peeves.

11. Agreed on all points.
I solemnly vow that someday when I'm making a decent middle-class living, I will never forget what it felt like to struggle, and I won't resent the tax money being taken from me and given to people more needy than I am.

12. Don't ever let anyone make you feel like lazy, tax-sucking leeches, ok?
:hug::hug::hug:
I'm horrified by the way Pelosi has played along with the thugs while the people who fucking ELECTED her suffer. :grr:

Hang in there...Someone is bound to come along to lead this country who actually gives a shit.
