Her 5th birthday is coming up next month and she made up invitations to hand out to her classmates in her kindergarten. We only wanted to invite 10-12 kids, which meant that several in her class of 20 would not get invited. (The place where the party is has room for more than 10-12, but they charge on a per kid basis and my wife didn't want to go crazy.)
I dropped my daughter off at the kindergarten yesterday morning, and she proceeded to put the invitations into the little cubby-holes that each kid has. One of the girls that was not going to get invited was there and seemed upset when she asked where her invitation was...
I was about to explain to this girl that we only had room for a small number of children and since our daughter could not go to her birthday party (we had a conflict that day), it wouldn't be fair.
But, my daughter immediately piped up before I could talk and said, "Sorry, we ran out of invitations," making it seem like more would be forthcoming when she got more.
