4. My dear Saint Etienne17!
Thank you!

It was pretty amazing...

This next storm coming in now will most likely melt most of the snow you see here...

There were a lot of photographers out in the Kenny Hahn Regional Park I went to...

On a clear day, LA sits in an incredible setting.

Yeah, Mt.Baldy is over 10,000 feet!

That makes it a real mountain to me...

Pictures like these, and better ones, are among the reasons that folks move to LA!

24. We lived near the base of Baldy...
in LaVerne and had a great view of it from the front of our house. After a good snowfall we would drive up to Manker Flats and go sledding. Then, before returning home we'd fill the back of the pickup full of snow and race home to dump it in the front yard. We would make it into a snow slide for the neighborhood kids to play on. I'll have to dig out those photos of the kids... in shorts and eating Popsicles on top of a quickly melting pile of slush.

I always enjoy your SoCali photos, Peggy! :loveya:

3. Even better than the last ones!!
Wow...it is really crystal clear out there today, isn't it? That's my favorite part of getting rain.

I also love, love, love the snow on the mountains.

You have found the perfect spot to photograph the city. I can't believe how much of it you can get in one shot. Downtown AND the Hollywood sign from the same location? Amazing.

Oh, thanks sweetie!

You are too kind, really...

That new lens is making me very happy!

The location is the Kenny Hahn Regional Recreation Area, or some such, in Inglewood, I think...

Just off La Cienega ...Baldwin Hills...

There were lots of people taking pics there today...

I wish I'd gone this morning...alas...

The mountains had no cloud cover at all, and the snow was visibly heavy; even more so than in these...

Next time I'll stop what I'm doing and head on over...

"For centuries, Man has looked to the skies and sought to uncover the mysteries of the universe. The telescope brought into focus the craters on the Moon and the canals on Mars, but it was limited, and Man's insistent hunger for knowledge and experience would not be satisfied until he broke the massive chains of gravity and set foot himself on a planet other than his own. Project Mercury was his first venture into space—a testament to his technical ingenuity and courage, a green light to a hundred other projects which would take him still further.

There is nothing wrong with your television set. Do not attempt to adjust the picture. We are controlling transmission. If we wish to make it louder, we will bring up the volume. If we wish to make it softer, we will tune it to a whisper. We will control the horizontal. We will control the vertical. We can roll the image, make it flutter. We can change the focus to a soft blur or sharpen it to crystal clarity.;-)

Nah, I'm not really afraid of earthquakes...

But I've lived in CA since I was 13, and I'm used to them now...

We have no control over them, and so it's useless to worry!

You just try to be prepared with food, water, batteries and so on...

The mountains, on the other hand, are to be enjoyed, esp. on a day like today!

Glad you like the pics, sweetie...

Those shots are just beautiful!

Yesterday I had a chance to see those mountains, covered with snow.
The snow level had dropped to 2,000 ft. elevation in some areas.

It was breathtaking.

Aren't those green hills a beautiful sight, too?

Now I'm starting to love winter in SoCal, again.

Rain, green hills, snow covered mountains and the whales,
migrating off our coast- that's winter here in SoCal.
;-)

Thanks so much for sharing these.

Edited on Sun Jan-27-08 01:44 PM by PeaceNikki
The first 2 are in/from my front yard.

The 3rd was taken just up the road while I driving. It's part of the Ice Age Trail - http://www.iceagetrail.org/.
The Ice Age National Scenic Trail is a thousand-mile footpath — entirely within Wisconsin — that celebrates the legacy of the Ice Age. Diverse geological features along the Trail rank among the finest examples of continental glaciation anywhere in the world. Beyond any textbook, the Ice Age Trail lets us see and touch glacial history.

The Ice Age Park & Trail Foundation (IAPTF), a volunteer- and member-based non-profit organization, protects, promotes, builds and maintains the Ice Age Trail. IAPTF staff and volunteers work cooperatively with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, National Park Service, local governments, businesses and private landowners to shape the Ice Age Trail into one of the premier hiking trails in the United States.

The Ice Age Trail is built and maintained by volunteers organized into 24 local chapters who annually give over 80,000 hours of their time!

The last 2 were after a beautiful snowstorm about a month ago - the sunset was just last week out my living room window. The picture does not do justice to the colors I saw.
