Alabama Governor wants TOLL ROADS for state
Governor Bob Riley joined Transporation Secretary Mary Peters last week to promote toll roads as the answer to highway congestion. The toll revenue would be used to improve state highways. The Secretary pledged to expedite any toll road projects submitted by Alabama. She prefers the use of toll roads instead of increasing federal taxes on gas. Thanks to Delaware we will have toll roads from coast to coast.

2. That sucks. About 10 years ago, somebody built a toll road in Greenville, SC.

Hwy 185. Very few people use it.

I think toll roads suck.

3. It could be worse.
If your Governor were like my lovely Governor Sonny Perdue, he would sit on the steps of the Capitol building and pray for a solution to the traffic problems.

4. Connecticut got rid of tolls in the 70s
After a big accident where a trucker killed a young family.

Don't tolls create congestion by making people slow down & then speed up again each time they hit a toll?

Of course, we make up for it by having higher gas tax and a property tax on our cars.

5. The Alabama governors
point was that because of lack of revenue the highways are getting in bad condition therefore that results in congestion. We still have to pay a buck round trip to get across the Mississippi River in New Orleans.

16. yes, I detest tolls
The Fast Lane system can bill you at 65 mph, I know because I've tried (before the speed limits were put in place)

there's no reason why, should something ever be agreed on, that they can't build a single stand over the entire highway and bill everyone that goes through. people insisting on paying cash could use a special lane.

6. That is the repubbie philosophy...
no public funds for infrastructure. Everything is privately constructed and pay-as-you-go.

7. I recall
a great bumpersticker last summer. A picture of the collapsed bridge in Minnesota with "Your Tax Cuts at Work" underneath.

8. They just sucker punched us here in Northern Virginia..
We're trying to get a rail line out to Dulles airport, and the Feds had agreed to chip in some money to help. The project is just about to get a green light, and now the Bush admin pulled the rug out from under it. They say no public money should go into it. I swear I think they're purposefully trying to screw the people of this country.

12. For whom the Road Tolls
it tolls not for me.

Got two new books to get to:

- Find Em, Chase Em, Sink Em, the mysterious loss of the WWII Sub USS Gudgeon
- Abandon Ship, The Saga of the USS Indianapolis the Navy's Greatest Sea Disaster. Originally published in 1958, it has been updated with the latest information.

Do you remember a few years back, the young kid who testified before congress to clear the name of Captain McVey? He joined the Navy and is now in flight training in Pensacola.
