Excitement (Crime!!1!) in the Sniffa/Bi-Baby household
So, about half an hour ago or so I went out on my balcony to smoke a cigarette and while I was out there I saw some woman going to her car in our parking lot - she tried to open the door, but it didn't open. So she proceeded to the next car and tried to open that door, and then the rear door, and then the 2 doors on the other side. I then noticed that her male friend (who was wearing a gray hoodie pulled down over his face was keeping watch).

I immediately ran inside and told Bi-Baby to call Ghouliani. When I returned to the balcony I saw that the female had found an unlocked door and was inside our next-door neighbor's car (whom, prior to tonight hated us) and I began yelling, "Hey! Hey! What the fuck are you doing!?"

My yelling freaked them both out and the woman left the car, shut the door, and proceeded to drop a pretty large ring of keys which she had to stop and retrieve. They both ran off into the distance, with the woman running for her life (out-pacing her boyfriend by a large margin) in the middle of the main thoroughfare we live on.

So, I then called the police to report what happened while Bi-Baby knocked on our neighbor's door to tell her that her car was just broken into. The police were here in about 4-5 minutes, and I went down to talk to them, and again gave them the description of the two burglars and which direction they ran in (and which direction they initially started to run in). While I was down there our neighbor finally got dressed (she was in her jammies when Bi-Baby knocked on her door) and came down while I was standing next to her car with the cops.

Anyhow, our neighbor, doesn't seem to hate us anymore. :)

But, the police hung out in our parking lot chatting for at least 15 minutes after I had returned to my top floor apartment, even though I stressed several times, that they're probably very near by, and I gave a very good description of them. Though they did ask me to keep my eye out for them... even though my description was mainly clothing, skin color, and a blond pony tail.

Maybe I should have just ran down there with my axe handle.

3. See, if you only had an AK-47 with a scope.
Crime averted, and you'd be saving tax dollars by not having to make the police investigate.

4. Of course the police hung around for 15 minutes.
If they left any earlier, they may have accidentally run into the perps, who might be dangerous. Much safer to wait a bit until it's certain the criminals have left the scene. I remember two cops in my local 7/11 in Baltimore twenty years ago. The first one said, "It's pretty dangerous out there, these days," to which the second replied, "Yeah, that's why I hang out in here."

Well done on trying to do some good!

10. Gracias
And yes, I was really fucking annoyed watching them (3 cops, 3 cars) just hanging out shooting the shit when they could most likely find the perps. As for them telling me to keep an eye out for them (whatever I'm supposed to do if I happen to see them again), I'm sure they're going to change their clothes - from my crow's nest, I obviously didn't get a good look at their faces. :eyes:

33. is it possible that they called in the description of the criminals
to a dispatcher and sent out other officers to look for them while the other two stayed by the crime scene in case they came back or hadn't gone from the area yet?

36. Maybe, but proabably not
I gave the description to the dispatcher, and when I went down and talked to the first officer on the scene, I asked him if he had the description I gave the dispatcher. He said yes, so I didn't immediately repeat what I said just a short time ago. As he searched the car that was broken into and we shot the shit (yes, that's how we describe our conversations up here) I here and there made it a point to say certain key words about my description. After maybe 3 minutes the other two cops/cars arrived. The first of the two was more aggressive than the original cop, and I told him I was the person who called and repeated the story and descriptions as fast as possible.

I waited a few minutes, and went back to my apt. And the we both sat there watching them hang out, laugh, and do some pantomiming.

I'm glad they came, but they did not act to get an almost guaranteed pinch.

37. In which case, they'd be tying up even more resources...
...for a simple B&E. There were already three cars in front of sniffa's house, so I'd be surprised if the cops decided to throw even more resources at such a low-priority crime.

I dunno, though, maybe this is why the police are always complaining they're understaffed. If it takes so many cops to deal with something this simple, imagine the mob they need to tackle major crime.

7. Thank you
My daddy raised me with, "You didn't see nothing," so I'm more proud when I actually take action. :)

Though the fact that they ran away, makes me feel that maybe I should have just ran down there for vigilante justice. That axe handle isn't just for show.

11. Good show!
Too bad you didn't have any missile-type weapons, like a slingshot or some of those Chinese throwing stars. Or even a javelin.

And better yet, you're on good terms with the next-door neighbor. That's always good!

26. you live in a low crime area
when I lived in Los Angeles, it was a popular saying that the police wouldn't even come unless you said there was a guy on your front lawn with a gun in his hand. We were burglarized and no one came for four hours, and we were a few blocks from the police station.

Here multiple police show up for shoplifting. It is one of those quality-of-life things. It is nice to live in a low crime area.
