Gym ad with nuns sketching nude man angers Hub Catholics.

BOSTON -- A fitness club ad running in Boston magazine that depicts nuns sketching a naked man has triggered protests among some members of the Bay State's Catholic community.

The ad for the Equinox Fitness Club is running in this month's issue and two Catholic organizations blasted the photo Tuesday, the Boston Herald reported, saying the Catholic League, the Archdiocese of Boston and the Catholic Action League of Massachusetts all decried the ad as offensive.

C.J. Doyle of the Catholic Action League of Massachusetts told the Herald the ad “portrays a callous contempt for the sensibility of Catholics."

The fitness company responded with a written statement saying, "Our ad campaigns are based on personal motivation and fantasy and throughout history the body has been considered a form of art."

The company only has one gym in Boston.

... the "sensibility of Catholics?" And I doubt that group speaks for all or even most Catholics anyway. Besides, aren't parody and satire good ways to defang an unassailable authority? In this case it is an authoritarian institution that wants people to be afraid of their own bodies, hence the head-to-toe habits of nuns.

I meant the assumption that people drawing a naked person = sex. In other words, they are upset about the content, right? I mean, in theory, nuns could take a life painting class and it would be totally innocent.

Damn Catholics.. they take everything so litterally. Those girls aren't "real" nuns.. they're models/acresses. Sheesh!

By the way, those don't look like real nuns. Most nuns use a LOT more blush than those ladies have on.
