What is it with scanty clad news/weather girls
and a news guy that is fully dressed in a 3 piece suit? This is extremely prevalent here on Los Angeles news channels (well mostly the smutty ones like KCOP & Fox).
The commercials for the newscasts always depict the male (usually much older than the females) in the middle of two pretty women.
I noticed this type of format took off with Julian Barberie. I want your input on this phenomena.

1. Hey, sex sells.
It gets your attention, and, good or bad, you remember the channels that do this, don't you?

3. It gets my attention because it is so hilarious.
But i get your point. However, news channels are suppose to be serious aren't they? I look at footage of news reporters in the old days and they most certainly look professional.
News broadcasts have become another form of entertainment. Most of the time spent in the news broadcasts is promoting a show that is on their network or a movie that is to be released by the parent company.

Keep in mind that I live in Los Angeles. I guess this type of format is to be expected.

5. Oh, its hilarious,
What I have found is even funnier, and I don't want this to be taken as disparaging to anyone, are the political/news programs on Univision/Telemundo. There is usually a stern faced male anchor, in a very conservative 3 piece suit...... and his female co-host in a bikini.

8. Cuz you can make up your own news stories to go with...
the anchors' behavior. My friends and I would do this freshman year of college after drinking too much. Its pretty amusing.

10. I will try that game when I am able to catch
a Telamundo political show. Also with the Spanish daytime talk shows that I don't understand. They look as bad as the english ones.

11. OMG yes
I have been living in South Florida for about 6 years now and have had heavy exposure to the Hispanic media here. Not just Telemundo and Univision etc on TV but the hispanic versions of Cosmo etc in the supermarket lines and so on. In addition my daughters have been best friends at one time or another with girls from Columbia, Brazil, Argentina, Portugal, Cuba and Mexico to name a few.

Hispanic pop culture seems to reflect a society that is different than our own in interesting ways. They are easily more patriarchal, and that is reflected in the "women as sex idols" tone just about every media outlet has. Given that, you'd think they'd be a little more puritanical in their attitudes towards sex but they really aren't. AT ALL! Sex is a very hot topic on the whole and they are comfortable with that. Most of the girlfriends my daughters make from that culture seem kinda trampy compared to their American counterparts but they really aren't. They are just lots more comfortable with sex than American girls are at the same age. It's an odd dichotomy but it seems to work for the most part.

6. Oh, I try to catch The Simpsons wich comes on fox
that is why is see these silly newscasts. And then there is "Extreme Dating" on KCOP. I have only recently watched this show and i think it is funny. B4 the show there are 2 women that wear short skirts that are supposed newscasters. Then there is a guy that wears a suit, dressed as if the show were somewhat important.

4. Yes, it is very ironic.
Memo to anyone: Do they have these type of news broadcasts in your home town or are they more down to earth?

14. ...
The reason for this is because looking at the hot, young bodies of women is good, but looking at the bodies of men is bad. I mean, come on, that's pretty obvious. I mean....come ON. REALLY. COME ON.

16. You're right
as far as I'm concerned, women bodies good, men bodies bad. But that's just my opinion no offense to anyone.

17. Well I'd have to counter that.
As long as the men are hot I would most certainly like to look at their bodies. Why, just today I saw a young man with out his shirt on and he passed by me.I had to look at his abs and chest. Oh, so delicious indeed.

15. Lol. It makes me wonder though.
These women work just as hard as their male counterparts do to get to where they are. And once they get there they are encouraged to wear short skirts and tight tops on television.
I know they don't have to and they can make up their own minds weather they would like to or not. So, I guess the question is why do they choose to?
