Fire Drills !!
How often do you have one at your place of employment? We had one at work today. Had to. It was the last day of the month. Once a month!! :woohoo:

1. Three time per year
The alarms are tested more frequently (every couple of weeks) but we can ignore them except for the real drills when we all have to potter outside.

They always manage to pick days with bad weather though.

2. Do you know in advance when the "real" drill will take place?
Kind of like cheating...I know of some places that make it known so that staff can be expecting it.

12. Sort of
They e-mail some of us asking whether there are any important meetings during a given week so that they can schedule the drill away from them; so we know which week it's going to be in. Also, they tend to take our three sites in order - we often hear from another site that they've had their drill, and know that our one will be along in abour half an hour's time.

3. depends on where you work
if its a factory it may be required quarterly. If its an office building 2 times a year. Twelve times seems a bit extreme to me but then again I'm only a fire marshal.

5. How about an elementary school?
I remember marching down the steps and out to the play yard pretty frequently.

At a corporate job, my group's assigned egress was out the closest fire door to a narrow, fenced off area behind the building. The door predated the sell off of the adjacent lot to a developer.

We all objected and the next time our egress point was changed.

7. Ya know what I don't get
is when at school they tell you to be quiet and stand in line. But in reality, if there's a real fire you're not going to be quiet or stand in a line.

17. Too frickin often...
Usually once every few months but it's almost always someone who burned some popcorn in the microwave and some idiot who pulled the fire alarm. We walk down 16 flights of stairs, just to get to the bottom and be told to get right on the elevator and go back up because it was a false alarm. Usually, when they have a real fire drill, we have to stand outside for about a half hour and then they serve us ice cream sundaes.
