Come on all you wild childs of the 80s! Favorite songs to dance your ass off too
I finally got a little ipod shuffle for my workouts. I want to put in all the great dance songs of the 80s and early 90s (some 70s too - need ABBA) cause that was the music I remmeber having the most fun dancing my ass off to.

Songs I have so far include:

Dancing Queen - ABBA
Fovever Your Girl - Paula Abdul
The Sign - Ace of Base
Venus - Banarama
Free Your Mind - En Vogue
Our Lips are Sealed - Go-Gos
Damn, I Wish I was your Love - Sophie B. Hawkins
When I think of You - Janet Jackson
Love Will Never Do - Janet Jackson
Kids of America - Kim Wilde
I Wonder if I Take You Home - Lisa Lisa and the Cult Jam
A slew of classic Madonna
In My House - Mary Jane Girls
No Parking on the Dance Floor - Midnight Star
Freak-a-zoid - Midnight Star
Love, Rollercoaster - Ohio Players
Mamma Mia - ABBA
Lovefool - The Cardigans
Tubthumper - Cumbawamba
Got to Beal Real - Cheryl Lynn
Car Wash - Rose Royce
Push It - Salt & Pepa
Let's Talk about Sex - Salt & Pepa
Whatta Man - Salt & Pepa with En Vogue
MacArther Park - Donna Summers
Move This - TEchnotronics

Now this is all the great girl singers but what else is out there I should add

6. I'm guessing that not once in your life time you got ready for a party or night out dancing
and played "Dancing Queen" thinking tonight "You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life See that girl, watch that scene, dig in the dancing queen."

It's a girl thing although I suspect many a gay man has always been inspired by those words!

And remember - "Anybody could be that guy, the night is young and the music is high"

"Dancing Queen" is not a song it's a lifestyle choice!

I'm going to hear a whole lotta great music at the 30th annual Athens Humans Rights Festival this weekend! Wish you could be here!

28. Got To Give it Up
By Marvin Gaye...

It's become kind of an anthem of sorts for me...

I used to go out to parties
And stand around
'Cause I was too nervous
To really get down
And my body yearned to be free
So I got up on the floor and found
Someone to choose me
No more standin' along the side walls
Now I've got myself together, baby
And I'm havin' a ball
Long as you prove it
There's always a chance
Somebody watches
I'm gonna make romance
With your body, ooo baby, you dance all night
Get down and prove it, feel all right
. . . .

Keep on dancin'
Got to give it up

I'd add X Offender by Blondie, I Can't Do Anything by X Ray Spex ( disclaimer, I'm in love with Polly Styrene), The Wait and Tattooed Love Boys by the Pretenders, Head over Heels by the Go-gos. plus some Joe Jackson and The Damned as well.

Gotta have something to pogo to.

43. Not much of a dancer, and I wasn't even born until '84, but this might be my favorite of the decade:
The Smiths - "Ask"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g1garPGLZwQ

Shyness is nice and
Shyness can stop you
From doing all the things in life
You'd like to

Shyness is nice and
Shyness can stop you
From doing all the things in life
You'd like to

So, if there's something you'd like to try
If there's something you'd like to try
Ask me I wont say no, how could I?

Coyness is nice, and
Coyness can stop you
From saying all the things in
Life you'd like to

So, if there's something you'd like to try
If there's something you'd like to try
Ask me I wont say no, how could I?

Spending warm Summer days indoors
Writing frightening verse
To a bucktoothed girl in Luxembourg

Ask me, ask me, ask me
Ask me, ask me, ask me

Because if it's not Love
Then it's the bomb, the bomb, the bomb,
the bomb, the bomb, the bomb, the bomb
That will bring us together

Nature is a language - can't you read ?
Nature is a language - can't you read ?

So, ask me, ask me, ask me,
Ask me, ask me, ask me

Because if it's not Love
Then it's the bomb, the bomb, the bomb,
the bomb, the bomb, the bomb, the bomb
That will bring us together

If it's not Love
Then it's the bomb
Then it's the bomb
That will bring us together

So, ask me, ask me, ask me,
Ask me, ask me, ask me
Oh, la...
