A friend sent me this. Give your Economic Stimulus money to charity if you don't really need it. I'm probably giving 100% if my wife agrees to give her half too.
We're trying to start a grass-roots movement regarding the use of the Federal Economic Stimulus Payments.
The suggestion is that everyone take a portion (preferably ½) of the amount they receive and donate it to
a worthy cause. The only stipulation is that it should be donated for immediate use.
(Not for an endowment, savings, etc.) That way the money (voluntarily given) will
do some good in an area of interest to the donor, and will go into the economy to provide
whatever stimulation it might provide. (Better than spending it on a Wii, or a "me".)
So, if you think it's a good idea, help spread the word.
The following is from a letter to the editor that I sent in at lunch-
Making the Federal Economic Stimulus Payment Work Twice-
Here's a thought- regardless of whether or not you agree with the need
for the economic stimulus payments- pledge to donate a portion (perhaps 1/2)
of yours to a charity or other non-profit organization.
Be it computers for a school; food, clothing or blankets to a church or shelter;
sheet music, instruments, or materials in support of the arts, the only stipulation
is that it should be used immediately. This way the money can do "double duty"-
add to the economy, and assist the organization you choose. After all, we didn't
have the cash yesterday, so what's the harm in splitting it between our own use
and a worthy cause?
