Whoa! I just saw Dawn Of The Dead (2004).
I remember when I was a young teen and pay TV was new(At least up here in Quebec),I saw the original

Zombie Dawn of the Dead (1978) and I loved that movie, one of the best and most disgusting

horror movie I ever saw.The remake is pretty good but like most remakes it's not as

good as the original.

If you've seen it or if you like Zombie movies please post your opinion.

One of the best Zombie movie in recent years is 28 Days Later.

Is the sequel: 28 Weeks Later any good ?

Thanks for your comments DUers. :)

1. I believe I've seen the 2004 version, though there are so many remakes it's hard to tell.
It was good, but the 1978 original is still the best out there. I liked "28 Day Later" as well, though if you want to be fair, it's not really "zombies" - just an infection that makes people act like zombies. Still a damned fun movie though.

If you've seen "Shawn of the Dead," what are your thoughts? I think that might be one of the best zombie movies made in the last 20 years. It's intense at times, and it's downright hilarious.

Zombies = Undead. The folks in 28... are just infected, not undead. Once they die, they are dead.

24. World War Z is a great book
It's almost a shame that it's considered sci-fi horror, because I think it would get a lot more respect if it wasn't in that genre. It's really a very expansive, well thought out book. I've read it 4 times and each time I'm amazed at how brilliant Max Brooks must be to have written it. I just wish there was a sequel.

They're making it into a movie, by the way.

For the record, the "Hill Have Eyes" remake and its sequel are also rather good, though once again inferior to the 70's version.

42. Yeah, it's a great example of low-budget 70's horror.
It was Wes Craven's second film after the appallingly effective "Last House on the Left," which is a difficult film to watch even for me, and while "THHV" certainly has endurance-testing moments of its own, it doesn't inspire the same urge to turn away from the screen that "LHOTL" does. If you're reasonably well-versed in horror films, you should be able to handle it just fine.

horror movie I ever saw). For years I tried to find it to see if it would still scare me(I

I like that there was some treading new ground, or what I like to call, "zombie research", going on, but not nearly as good as the original, which is one of the best zombie movies ever.

I do like 28 days later, and I do consider it to be a zombie movie - don't believe these punks who tell you that it isn't. 28 weeks later was also quite good.

Have you seen "Diary of the Dead" yet? It was out for one day here (I think it was release here - UK - first, with the exception of film festivals) before I left for a month, and when I came back it was gone. I really liked "Land of the Dead", but I've heard that this new one is better.

It was a bit of a let down in that the first 10 minutes of the film were so off the charts excellent and engrossing that the rest of the film had a hard time measuring up. The first ten minutes were fantastic.

32. I thought DoD '04 was very well done...28WL very good, tool
Kind of lost Romero's original critique on consumerism, but still very well crafted. That opening sequence is a masterpiece. I pop the DVD in once in awhile, just to watch the ten minutes or so before the opening credits. It's that good.

BTW, avoid the so-called remake of Day of the Dead, just out on DVD. Crap. Hot buttered crap. There's two hours of my life I'll never get back, Mena Suvari or no.

28 Weeks Later was excellent, if you liked the original. After the success of the first film, they had a big budget with high expectations for the sequel, so I was pretty leery. But they didn't deliver a big-budget, cliche-ridden horror film. And that's a good thing. Still very intimate, still alternatively quietly chilling and chaotically terrifying, still a terrific story. I'd pay to see 28 Months Later, if they can keep this up.

when I saw that the Zombies were not trying to shop.It was a good part of what made the

original movie so great.

...and I'm a tough sell when it comes to horror. Enjoy!!!

I don't know if the crew that made DoD '04 just ignored the whole point of being in the mall, or they figured it had been played out, or what. But the whole appeal of the setting of the mall really made that original movie; a palace of consumption becomes a fortress of survival. Romero said his inspiration came easy: he saw a societal problem, then made a monster movie out of it. I found it fascinating that somehow, somewhere deep in the living dead's psyche, there was still that spark of humanity. And since we're creatures of consumption, it made sense that "shopping" would be a common thread between the living and the dead. I can't remember the character who said it, but as they stood on the roof of the mall in the original, looking out over the crowd of shuffling moaning undead, and said forlornly, "they know they want to be here", that made the whole collapse of civilization even more poignant, to me.

Oh well, enough of my blathering. Enjoy a good "flesh-eating ghoul from beyond the grave" movie today!

I didn't remember the 1st one so I couldn't compare it until later.

28 Days Later was my second favorite (in the zombie addiction time-line) and I LOVE that one, but it wasn't as much fun for me as 2004 Dawn was.

28 Weeks Later is good and I'd like to see it again soon but it's not as good. A great part of zombie movies is the beginning of the problem, when people figure what's happening and zombies are still mixed up with everyone else. I'm a purest about the simple zombie plot :headbang:

57. Tell you what: you pay me ten bucks...
Edited on Fri May-02-08 02:24 AM by Hobarticus
I'll come to your house, trash the place, put my dirty feet up on the table, drink all your booze, and you'll feel the exact same relief when I leave as I felt when this movie was finally over.

Terrible, terrible, terrible. If I had been an actor in this stinker, I'd have sued to have it buried deep in a swamp somewhere. Can't think of a single redeeming feature of the movie, and I love the genre.

Go rent "30 Days of Night" instead; being from the Great White North, you'll love it.

55. Fellow Quebecer here...
...at least technically. I was raised for some years in Laval.

I liked the 2004 version a lot with one exception, which I can't get out of my mind when thinking about this movie: that unbelievably stupid girl who chased after her dog.

I thought the rooftop communication scenes were great, I especially loved the impact of the point where "our" heroes realized the poor sap on the other roof was done for. Not quite genius, but close.

Overall, for the genre, I'd give it an 8.5/10. I'd have given it a 9 had that dumb little girl not chased after the dog. I'm not one of those who is capable of being THAT attached to pets, so even though I have two cats I just couldn't buy it.

69. Partly cloudy, high of 74/23, low of 58/14.
I would rather have the snow. I loathe warm weather and would live in Canada or Alaska year round if I could find a job and take my girlfriend with me. Given the guy-to-girl ratio in Alaska, I can't go there without her :)

58. Off-topic and off-monster, but I'd recommend 30 Days of Night
if you dig survival horror.

61. Hey peoples,is the movie "The Mist" any good ?
On a movie board I've read positive and negative reviews but it was useless because

most peoples on that board are, let's say,not...well I'll pass on this part but it was 50/50:

It sucks!,it's great! No more elaborated comments than this.So is it worth watching ?

65. I enjoyed The Mist a lot
It starts out bad, and just gets worse, and worse and worse for the people dealing with their new surroundings.

68. I hated, hated, HATED the ending. I just did not get it at all.
(And I usually like bleak endings.)

63. Do not under any circumstance see Land of the Dead
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Land_of_the_Dead

People doing homages to themselves need turning into zombies and put in zoos.

70. Seem all of the "dead" movies, including all the remakes
All saw all fo the return of the dead movies (the first was the best and the funniest). Saw 28, but not the sequel. I don't know what it is about these movies, but they have some sort of attraction. I just enjoy watching them.

71. I hate the fast moving zombies.
The original is much better. The undead shamble and grope. They don't run like Barry Sanders.

28 Weeks later is pretty funny. Lots of over the top gore and brutality.
