Do You Find It Hard To Post Without Emoticons?
I am addicted to a few

:hi:

and I like a few others

:loveya:

:toast:

:dilemma:

I find it hard to post without them, in fact I almost feel like I posted a naked post.

I really hadn't ever thought about it until I noticed that when I posted without emoticons it felt strange

I guess on DU they are technically called "emotion icons"

I've never understood the check box on the thread starting post, or "OP" that says: Check if you DO NOT wish to use emotion icons in your message

Or in the search page where it says "search all Children's forums" :wtf:

Oh well

just things to keep my totally wrecked brain busy.

:P is another one I like

:hi:

:toast:

4. I know, but you know what?
I recognize your emoticon usage for what it is, a part of you. I imagine an expressive person who probably talks with her hands or draws pictures with her words when she talks. I may be way off, but that is my image of you :hi:

18. Something that you must not be familiar with
probably secondary to HFCS or something

it is a :P smilie kind of icon used to denote an emotion like a smile :) or a frown :( or an angry person :grr: or a laughing person

now if you could understand that and start using them occasionally this wouldn't be so hard :P

I tend to use :P most of the time as my all-purpose one anyway. And it just happens to have a little picture with it here on DU. :)

28. There are always the non-sideways ones.
Usually some variant of o.o

The 'huh' one... o.O
The wide-eyed surprise one O.O
The knocked out cold one x.x
ect. :)

10. Yes. Online text can be confusingly vague
without emoticons. You don't know what tone or inflections people intended, which can determine what they really mean. Emoticons help clarify, so I use them as a normal part of online grammar. :)

That way you know I'm not being pedantic or snarky. I am just trying to communicate clearly. :P

21. Such as
I could say you rock :D

or you rock :grr:

and you would derive a different meaning from it

but :yourock: is pretty clear and :loveya: and  are pretty clear unless the message is totally incongruent with the emoticon

27. From a site I found where people make centaur costumes
Centaurs - tribes.net

The site/domain seems to be based out of Houston, which is news to me!

She does have great legs, though. I liked that image bacause she did a wonderful job of making it mostly seamless and realistic :)

But I wouldn't say their appearances are rife. I love writing and place my focus on expressing myself as best as possible with words.

a person of few emoticons and many words... words paint pictures, emoticons a snapshot if that.

 but I still like them a lot :woohoo:
