How do you find shit on Free Republic, seriously
I wanted to see what the Freepers said about SMU rejecting the Bush Library but all I could find was some article from 2 months ago. Those freepers have fundraisers but clearly they don't put any of it towards improving their website functionality!

1. I tried navigating their site once
It was like wandering through the Bog of Eternal Stench.

No "home" to return to, endless threads that lead nowhere.

I still have nightmares.

19. Not only that, but...
Since the threads aren't nested like they are here, it makes it much more difficult to see who someone is replying to. You shouldn't have to click that says "Reply to #18" to see what #18 says and follow the conversation, it should just be there for you. DU makes this easy. :)

6. Look what I found over there:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/2010067/posts

This "Christian" is feeling bad because he hits (and kills) FAKE people in a video game.

Gods, when I'm playing the game, I try my damnedest to kill pedestrians. Why? Because it's NOT REAL!!!

7. I hate to say this, but I can see their point
;)

It has to do with being "sensitive" to "realistic" depictions of death and destruction. Some movies I won't watch because they affect me that way. I've only seen Saving Private Ryan once because it was just "too real" and thus, I still remember it vividly. I can remember playing one of those Doom-type games so many years back and after only a few weeks I had to stop because it was invading my dreams.

So, even though we know it's "fake" the subconscious may not and you get a detrimental effect. That's my take on it, anyway

10. If people can't see the difference between real or fake...
then they've got a problem.

12. It's not a "problem"
it's simply called being sensitive.

I like some violent movies, like say, The Professional. But it doesn't mean I like seeing people killed, no matter how "fake" it is. I tend to "lose myself" in fictions (movies, books, whatever) and basically, "I am there" so it has a big effect. I know other people that are the same way and I would not consider them to be unbalanced or have a problem. They're just sensitive :)

28. I understand what you're saying.
We all have different tolerance levels. I'm generally fine with most violence in movies, but I have seen some scenes that made me thankful when they finally ended. And violence against animals in movies is something I hate to watch. Sure, it's fake, but I just don't want to see it. Hell, even some well-done scenes of emotional pain can be hard to take.

32. I'm with ya.
I don't have a problem with other people liking that stuff, but personally I can't stand watching slasher films any more than I can stand choosing the Dark Side when I play Knights of the Old Republic II.

I'm not confusing fiction with reality, it's just a matter of personal preference. It's no different from not liking the color blue or not liking country and western music.

31. It's clearly a personal determination.
When I was younger I was more concerned about the quality of the game than what kind of immoral acts were possible within it.

Fallout introduced the "sandbox" style of gaming (its decendents are games like GTA and Oblivion). In that game, you could perform acts far more immoral than anything in GTA (e.g. get married, pimp your spouse out for cash, then kill him/her, cut out the brain and use it to operate a dangerous robot you could use against your enemies), but that was counterbalanced by being able to do incredibly good things (e.g. save the crop so some town doesn't starve to death, save another town from bandits, find access to water for your own "home town", etc.). The option was up to you, and that made the game feel completely open, like you could do anything you want: be good, evil, or anything in between.

Generally though, I'm just happy that the option is there, but I don't personally do any of the evil stuff. I don't condemn other gamers who wish to "get it out of their system" and go around kicking dogs and small children, but doing it always made me feel kind of creepy.

As recently as Knights of the Old Republic I tried taking the evil route and it just made me feel ooky. I replay that game and its sequel regularly, but I always choose the good path.

It's just a matter of preference. I do not condemn others for enjoying that element of gaming, but I just don't want to do it myself.

What I really have a problem with are people who insist that these things should not be in games at all, when things as bad or worse routinely turn up in novels, movies, or heck, even the Bible.

I stopped playing GTA:SA because I didn't like being a thug.

On the other hand, I love Call of Duty 1-3!

But the issue is really that he is getting his money from the same donors the terrorists are getting their money from.

Well, that's a good thing, isn't it? Terrorists CAN'T get money that goes to President Bush, right?

If an Arab dollar is going to go to either President Bush or the terrorists, wouldn't you rather it went to President Bush?

god, I have to admit I have a love/hate relationship to that site.

And I can't find anything there myself, but when someone posts a link, I am generally amused/saddened by the sheer simplicity of thought that goes on there, much less the atrocious spelling.

You're right about the fundraisers, though. They have these fundraisers every quarter, but you never see the website improved. The server and hosting fees can't be that much. I think those dumbass freepers are just paying for RimJob to sit on his ass and do nothing all day.

30. I did the same thing last night and came up empty.
I think there's a lot more consistency among Republicans than Democrats. It seems they're much more of the same mind and don't like to air out their dirty laundry. We're much more messy, loud, and argumentative. I never saw anything over there to equal what we have going on in GD-P right now.

This site, and Democrats in general, are far more interesting than that site and those guys. Although the level of total bizarreness is much higher over there than here.
