This lesson is on how not to do things seems to totally escape some people. I'd love to see how the trip ended up but I feel confident he ended up in a ravine somewhere wondering why bad things seems to always happen to him.

It's amazing how the extra weight really smoothed out the ride in the truck.
He did have to air up the rear tires a bit (around 160 psi).
He added some heavy-duty chain for extra support on the tailgate (note that he used the "Heavy-Duty 'S' hooks to attach the chain). He also paid-up for some BIG 5/16 sheetmetal screws to attach the frame to the tailgate.
Yeah, he knows it's overkill, but he didn't want the possibility of having an accident.

Much of his time was spent on his front porch whittling down that MASSIVE 4x4 board to fit precisely into the ball mount receiver. Also note that he used a 14" piece of 1x4 to help distribute the load more evenly--"YOU CAN"T BE TOO SAFE, YOU KNOW!!".
"It cost a little more, but you just can't be too safe when pulling a trailer of this magnitude!!"
Look out Utah, cause here he comes!!!!

7. But how far?
Unless he's going about 2 blocks, I wouldn't bet on a completed journey.

2. I love the wooden "pin" for the hitch.
Whoever he is, he's definitely related to this guy:

And as if the plywood weren't enough, there are 10 80-pound bags of cement in the backseat. Total estimated load was somewhere around 3,000 pounds. And, yes, he punched BOTH rear shocks straight through the towers.

5. I wonder how fast he ripped the door off the back.
those hinges were not made to take that weight.

12. C'mon, man. The chain is at least 16-gauge, and those are decent S-hooks.
Plus, it has the additional "free-air" bracing of the "post-hitch." That tailgate looks like it could last twenty or thirty feet, easy.

My big question is: How, exactly, is the modified fifth-wheel attached to the bed? Bolted through to some 2x4s underneath? A whole shitload of sheet-metal screws? Tow straps and winches?

Taking all bets!

10. omigosh I'm having flashbacks to my ex
this is exactly the kind of project he'd take on, right down to fashioning the wooden pin. No amount of common sense ideas, alternate cheaper/better solutions would ever get through to him. Until it was all over, usually ending in bad news, then he'd admit what stupidity it was. But he'd still try something like this again the next time. I think he liked the thrill of the chase - "can it be done???"

15. I want to see him hit a speed bump (or any other bump)
It'll be fun to watch the front tires slowly stop spinning in the air, while the tailgate rests serenely on the ground and the rear wheels smoke and make black patches on the pavement.

I wonder if he can turn that rig. The overhead on the trailer looks a might close to the vehicle, but I'm sure an engineer of that caliber would have thought of that all ready.

I used to have the same problem going fishing alone in my boat until I stenciled WIFE on a burlap bag and filled it with rocks to put in the bow.

Is the SUV big enough to pull the trailer.

Seems to me one would need a large motor the pull that monster.
